Svo??

i was just wondering if a mustang svo engine would be worth putting in my 3.0l im look to upgrade when i get back from iraq......and my last car was a turbo and i really liked it........or do they make a turbo kit that would fit???

Redneckstone 01-09-2006 03:57 PM

first how about some info on the truck then just saying i have a 3.0L...thanks.

now why in heck would you want to down grade to a 2.3L turbo now granted its a turbo but no. if you want fast and good power reliable and not bad gas millage go with a 302 mustang motor its quite simple to swap into the trucks and fits great. or if its a beleave 2002 and newer 3.0L you could put on the whipple supercharger and have Doug made you a tuner for the computer and you will be screwing fast for a ranger

sorry i wrote that post at like 130am.......its a 95 extended cab......not to sure on the miles but i know its up there.....and also im in germany so i have a limited number of donar trucks to steal parts from but svos are everywhere thats y i figured i would go that way and i really dont want a supercharger.......

YellowEdge 01-10-2006 03:37 AM

Well, i guess you could make it work...But the supercharger is deff the way to go...

I may just be misreading something, but you said you wanted to put the motor in when you got home right? You said you are in Iraq, and home is Germany? Just trying to get a grasp on that.

Anyways, 95 is a good year to do a 302/5.0 swap. V8 > turbo 4cyl!

D. 01-10-2006 12:13 PM

Why would anyone want to do this swap? Simple..

Turbo'ed 2.3's have pushed beyond 300ponies and have a good torque curve. Theres MANY aftermarket parts for a 2.3T from an SVO. The 3.0 Duratec has a whipple that can push what powerlevels? With no aftermarket bottom end parts to strengthen it?

If he's looking for more Umph, it looks like a good plan if he has the cash and time. ;)

"Ford 2.3 turbo engine makes up for in good ole "over engineering"! Completely stock short block 2.3 engines have been known to be able to withstand power outputs approaching 400HP! Ford 2.3 turbo powered drag cars can run 10's in the 1/4 mile and put V8 cars to shame! "

Whole webring dedicated to this engine combo -- >

Picture meeting up with a 2.3 4bangin pinto.. easy kill right?
http://pintopage.fordpinto.com/Poisonous%20Pinto.htm
"... Pinto run a string of 10.75s at 118 mph "

10's? On a 4banger that was designed 20 years ago..

Anyone know of a 3.slo thats running 10's presently? 11's? I think Derreks BEST run was in the High 13's ( and his bottom end went all over the place ) .

Your in Germany.. MATE! Hit the boneyards! Look for a Cosworth R6 or an RSL. They both had turbos and inner coolers ( awd package ). If you can find a whole engine, use MPS to ship it home ;) , no tarrifs , no JDM needed !

I would rather use the motor from a Turbo Coupe. You can get them with a few years less on them and there are more Turbo Coupes. And i believe it was slightly different with a little more power or better EFI. I'm to lazy to look right now to find the exact differences.

I really don't know why most people on this site bash the turbo lima. I've heard the svo is better because of the cam or somethin' like that..but couldn't tell u for sure. For the swap you'll need to swap the motor mounts...dunno if the tranny will work or not but im sure you will atleast have to swap the bellhousing and all that junk. I you want to keep you a/c you'll have to flip the header or get an aftermarket one. You'll alos need all sorts of sensors as well as the wiring harness and ecu from a turbo 2.3 car. Wiring will suk since you have a 95...but you'll have a turbo ranger :D

yep you read that right......im in the air force currently at balad, iraq but im stationed at ramstein germany..........orginally from missouri LOL anyway the reason im looking for info on this is cause 4cyl = cheap gas, v8 = to much gas............... my truck is in germany with me.........and ive still got at least another year and a half there.....so i got the time as for money ive made somewhere around $6000 in the 4 months ive been over here and looking to get somewhere in the ball park of $2000 when i get back..... if i dont do the swap i at least need to get rid of the speed limiter....... correct me if im wrong but doesent bamachips.com have chips for my truck 95 3.0, im still looking into the svo and im starting to lean towards it more then ever now that ive read all this.......yes i know its going to be alot of work but what else do i have to spend my money on LOL i sure as hell cant take it with me when i die but anyway is there anyone out there that has done this or something like it......a parts list or a FAQ would be great........... o yea for all that wants to know it really sucks over here in iraq LOL and "haji" is really starting to piss me off with the 6am morters, rat bastards cant even let me sleep in on my one day off a week LOL

KARPE 01-16-2006 11:33 PM

Dude, go for the svo swap that would be awesome!!

could you do us a favor and make a signature, using the user CP function... if you have time. that way we dont have to refer back to this thread to get your specs.

sounds like you have the time, and the money. got any other expenses? when do you get back to Germany?

Motion 01-17-2006 05:55 AM

as for the sig.......im using slow ass governemt computers, and my time on them is limited to 15 mins less if there is a line.......as for me getting home "should" be somewhere in the next 2-3 weeks.......back to the land of beer and brats for me LOL damn i could use a beer!!
