turbo 2.3 questions.

I just bought a complete turbo setup off a turbocoupe and almost bought the intercooler but they wanted too much for it. My question is about the intercooler... Should I buy the tc intercooler for 40 bucks or should I just spend a little more for a front mount. I found a front mount for about 80 nearby. Thanks in advance.

well as long as the piping works, I would spend the money for the FMI becuase it is definately more functional. but you have to remember that now you will need to get new piping peices to route the tubing to the front mount intercooler, thus having to spend more money, if you are on a budget then jsut by the TC intercooler for now and make the change later on. one way or another you really need to run an intercooler.

I am on a budget.. The tc ic was very nice though. All fins were perfect and no visual cracks on the exterior housing. From what I hear is the stock wastegate actuator limits boost at 10 psi. I'm planning to run around 7-8 ish to start with and eventually 9-10. What will I need to do (on the cheap) to control/limit boost?

Front mount definitly. Are you using forged pistons and rods from the TC? or stock ranger bottom end?

Im using the stock bottom end but I have all fuel system components to run about 10psi with no problems. Just waiting to find a wideband for a decent price.

for a cheap boost controller look on ebay for a manual ****, it will look like a square T-fitting with an adjustable **** on th top end, you can pick one up for around 30 bucks. and it would be wise to run about 6-7psi. it should be a pretty easy project, seems like you have all that is needed.

I spent nearly 1000$ on my front mount. I think you are skimping on the wrong thing.. You want to keep that air nice and cold so as to help prevent it from knocking.

I agree but with being on a tight budget and only running 6-7 psi on a stock engine, the stock TC intercooler will work fine for now. Anything more boost wise and a FMI is a must!, but you would also need to start swapping engine internals then also so that the bottom end can handle the boost increase.
