wanna turbo

i have a 03 ranger with the 2.3 what is the xheapest way to get hp and still get good gas milage. i was thinking about a turbo but i am kinda on a budget so any help would be great

thanks dusitn

DerangedPony 03-03-2008 05:44 PM

A turbo would be the best way for a 2.3. You can find a ton more info at:

http://www.turboford.net/

gumby 03-03-2008 07:30 PM

if you look over on turboford, search carefully; it is a lima 2.3 based forum which has zilch in common with your duratec 2.3.

there is some duratec info over there is you look hard enough.

DerangedPony 03-04-2008 09:30 AM

I'm sorry, I just saw that he has a 2003. You should still find some info. but it'll be much harder to add a Turbo to a newer 2.3.

bruiser 03-04-2008 01:38 PM

also check over at rangersreveng.com tins of turbo ranger info if i heard right i think you can use the focus forged internals but not on a budget build

dustin03ranger 03-05-2008 06:18 PM

well thanks for all the comments but i did find this kit on ebay but i dunno how good a hybrid turbo is but it has everything i nedd but who knows. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-T4...spagenameZWDVW

gumby 03-05-2008 08:07 PM

like i said earlier; search carefully!

that is a lima based kit, not duratec.

bwester04 03-05-2008 08:18 PM

Note: the 2.3L Duratec I-4 is 2001.5+

Anything before that is going to be a Lima I-4

bruiser 03-07-2008 08:18 PM

and that ebay kits is garbage dont waste your money

dustin03ranger 03-08-2008 03:40 PM

ok does anyone on this thread know where i can get a nice t3/t4 turbo setup with everything i need and a stroker kit for a 2.3

gumby 03-08-2008 05:21 PM

google "2.3 Duratec turbo kit" then open your wallet. duratecs are not cheap to build.

also check out the duratec forum over on RPS, looks like FocusSport may be interested in puttin a ranger kit together.

Ok here you are...

Ok dustin. Check these guys out: www.ststurbo.com . They won't set you back as much as some of the bigger names will and be prepared to do alot of internal mods. I'm talking camshafts, injectors, cranks, rods the whole 9 yards. Please DON'T get that ebay kit you found. It's junk dude. They'll rip you off. STS has a bolt on squire universal kit using Garrett Turbochargers which are good and reliable. If you want an even better turbo kit built try these guys but bring the bank, www.turboneticsinc.com . Their smallest kit will set you back around $5,000 bucks.

alright man, your starting to sound like me when i started my turbo project. first thing everyone told me was to not cheap out and buy things off of ebay. just to put things into perspective, the kit you want is 500, my turbo alone brand new is 800. i bought it used from a friend (now i has to be rebuilt cuz i took the cheap way out) but still, my turbo used and new manifold cost me more than that kit did.

if you want like big hp increase get ready to spend money on new internals. from what i have been told, the stock insides will only handle like 7lbs of boost. but then you gotta change out the clutch and fuel pump, then the injectors... its really easier just buying a block (or taking yours out if you have another mode of transportation) and revamping the one you have, especially if your talking stroking it. then even if you still have your heart set on this ebay kit, you still have to buy the programmer to reset your ecu.

but make sure you do a lot of research, lots and lots of research. this is one place you dont wanna throw things together. i did the first time, then i had to get a new truck cuz i needed a ride and my ranger is still sitting at my dads being rebuilt cuz i threw things together and it never ran right.

and make sure you consider everyones input, especially over there on the turboford forums. they've been doing this a long time. its just harder to get info from them cuz they deal a lot with older obd1 cars. rangersrevenge is a great new site. there not a lot of people on there yet cuz its still pretty new, but make sure you listen to jesswarren and b2urbo, they know what their talking about. and dont hesitate to ask questions, as long as you use the search button first, that pisses a lot of people off when others do that.

If You Managed To Do All The Work Yourself An Did A So Called Junk Yard Turbo Build It Will Still Cost 1,000-1,500 And That Turbo Is Sooooo Wrong For Your 2.3

Yep. That's why I gave him the Turbonetics website. STS is a BEGINNERS PACKAGE. I've turbo charged alot of Cars and a few S10's (2 I think). I've never turbo charged a Ranger. I am doing my project on my ranger and Have been looking at Turbo Charger manufacturers for nearly 2 and a 1/2 years and their respective components included. The beginners package i mentioned earlier has caused alot of people to end up Totaling their vehicles because they didn't ask questions and do reasearch. Basicly I would recomend shopping around and ask alot of questions and seek the advise of an automovtive professional before starting this project. He or She will have better insight and knowledge on this matter.
