i think you have a serious sickness... i thought you bought this truck to drive... all the work you had to do just to get it running right would have been enough to scare me from modifying it anymore. are you ever going to listen to me Beard?

its possible. hard to say.

I understand where you are coming from but I cant gut it to get rid of it yet. I spent way too much to get it running right. You know just as well as I do that changing the exhaust really isnt a mod at all. Honestly all I want to do to it is get an intake, tuning to remove the check engine light, and replace the elbow with the EGR valve on it. I think about a stack and talk about it but it is likely to never happen.

as for listening to you, im warming up to the idea. haha
Ranger coming to you soon haha

Well the issues continue. I should really just drive this thing off a cliff...

It makes 0 heat, I am pretty confident the heater core is plugged. Once I figure out how to replace the heater core I will order one. Looks like its around $140. I believe the dash will need to be completely removed. Anyone want to swing by and lend a hand? lol

I am pretty sure this truck is bound and determined to take my money so I can spend it on my ranger.

Well that sucks, but the heater core being plugged would make complete sense.

I forgot but, have you installed a coolant filter yet? I really think if people would install coolant filters from the get-go, a lot of problems could be/could have been avoided.

Thats no fun, I put all new IWE's in my F150 today, they where clicking, but I think I deserved it, drug our car trailer with a load of wood on it through 10 inches of snow, in second gear rpm's never dropped below 3500 the whole time this went on for 10 miles, I had to turn off the rpm alert on the edge because i kept beeping at me and it was set to go off at 4900rpm's lol. They guy with me said I think your pushing your truck to hard and I was like do you want to get out and dig?

Yeah I have installed one. Several months ago. The first filter appeared to be packed full of rust pieces., which I was happy to see but not that excited. lol I wish I could get it all out.

I like the coolant filter design but I would prefer it filtered a main line, not a small amount.

It does make perfect sense, its the same thing as the oil cooler its just passing heat from oil to water and the heater core water to air...

When I flushed the system back in the summer I flushed the heater core and it blew a ton of rusty particles out. I knew it would eventually need changed.

I am pretty sure it will need a new oil cooler again by summer. The engine block ports are jsut too contaminated and I dont think I will ever over come this issue with this truck unless i change out the whole engine for a clean one.

Instead of a coolant filter (not that it would hurt), I think if people would flush the Ford Gold coolant immediately there would a lot more happy 6.0 and 6.4 owners out there.

Anyway sorry to hear about more problems Zach. So far my truck is doing great [/fingers crossed]

thanks Ryan. I agree, the coolant has to be changed more often than the book says. It is extremely important on the 6.0 and 6.4. The other issue is the water pump on the 6.4 is stupidly spec'd out. Guys are machining half the fins off on trucks that spend a lot of time in high RPMs. Otherwise it just wears metal pieces away from the high flow.

He must have stolen his if it was all cheaper then those because some of those are cheap as hell. And if I were having all those problems I would defiantly be getting another one.

WEll for one the cheapest one you listed was a 5.4L gasser. So thats not even a comparison.

I think mine was listed for 32ish and some change. I walked out around 21k after trade in and I didnt have my 150 paid off. I didnt do horrible but not that great either. Mind you most of the 6.4s have fallen in price since because of the 2011 6.7, so that hurts too.

At this point I cant justify trading it in, I have too much invested I am just going to stick with it for a few years or for many depending on how it lasts.

Oh and I wanted to mention that the 6.4s are actually starting to get a good rap. Guys are figuring out what needs to be done and are getting good results. Many people love to tow with them and the longevity is really being tested. Worst issue is the cooling system, take care of that and some emisions stuff and your golden I think.

I tend to agree here. The more I read about the 6.0 the more I think the bulk of its problems come from ignorance. I'm confident that the 6.4 is no different. There are certain things that need monitored on these engines that the average powerstroke owner has no clue about. Address the coolant and oil cooler issue and monitor the ECT/EOT and the 6.0's longevity is no worse than the 7.3.
