Torsion Bar

I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge and I'm wanting to raise the T-bars but Im not sure how to exactly do it. I know there is the search engine but there arent any pictures of how to do it. Does anyone have any pictures?

if you follow the torsion bars towards the rear of the truck, at the end of em there is a little box with a hole in the middle. in the middle of that box there will be a bolt that you can tighten. i dont have pics of it and cant take any since i am at school, but if you have any more questions you can take a pic of yours and i can show you exactly what it is

when you crank them be sure to turn both sides the same amount and DO NOT max them out since if you strip the threads you are looking at a big repair bill

There should be two fairly big bolts. Well, decent sized. I dont recall the actual size. Anyway one for each Torsion bar. And yeah, they'll take a big wratchet to turn. Try a breaker bar.

Are there other bolts around the main bolt?

the bolt you should be turning should be about 1/2" if I remember right. there should be an L-shaped cover over it with a hole in the middle that you can access the bolt from the bottom with. There will be 2 bolts on the bottom and 2 bolts on the side that hold the cover on.

Does jacking the truck up make turning the bolts easier or does it not matter?

I say it should be a bit easier since there is less pressure on them. If your having a hard time just spray them up with penetrating oil, that should help some.

dont spray them with oil. that will cause problems. make them go loose on their own. not good.

jack the truck up and turn them. it takes some effort.

13mm socket is what it takes i broke a socket trying to crank mine, but i finally got it.

you don't have to jack the truck up to do this. just make sure and do the same amount of turns and after you do each side just bounce the front suspension by pushing down on the front bumper or something to take some of the load off

ok so i "cranked" my bars four full turns today. No increase in height(i think). I measured from the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender and from the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender. I cranked the passenger side exactly four turns. Then I measured both sides, it looked like the pass. side sat higher but couldn't tell for sure. So I put it back to stock and re-measured, same deal. Maybe it was because I didn't have it jacked up.

Another funny thing I noticed was that my driver side seemed like it had about an inch less threads on the bolt, like it had been previously cranked.

Now it has a slight drift to the right too. I don't wanna get it aligned til I've got this lift situation figured out. BTW where can you get a lifetime alignment like it says on that rangerforums link?

So call me a dummy, but I'm stumped.
