i called ford and they are $90 each side. has anyone found a better place to buy em?

Search ford parts on google, one of those sites has them for like 40-50 bucks a peice.

that should be the stiffest (code 1) torsion bars around correct?

i know i need the left side as well.

also, some say w/sport trac and some say w/o sport trac. does that mean some of them wont fit the sport trac? how are they different with the sport track, and should it still fit the ranger?

As far as I know, the sport trac, Ranger, and explorer all share the same underpinnings, including the torsion bars. I'm not sure why they'd make that distinction.

Are there different part numbers for w/ sport trac and w/o?

 

I have the part numbers for the code 1 bars at home, unfortunately I am not there so I cant give them to you right now.

that shows all the torsion bars to be...5B326 (RH), 5B327 (LH)

and then its just the spring code before that

so i want the 1-5B326 (RH), 1-5B327 (LH)

on that site you gave me it doesnt show the part numbers anywhere, i think i will call them to see if they know any more, since the parts from them are half of what ford wants

 

Yea some dealers will give ya the part numbers but you need to tell them you want the code one bars, if you give them the vin of your truck they may say you need code B or whatever, something that you dont want.

 

Alon, if you want the Ranger bars with the highest spring rate (#1), these are the full Ford part numbers:

The online price last year was about $40 each plus shipping.

I looked at them on the site that Bill recommended and they were just under $40 each. With something as heavy as those, you'll want to get them shipped from the closest source. I have ordered from Atascadero Ford in the past and they are in California. Actually, I'm not sure it always matters that much since some of stuff from the online stores is drop shipped directly from Ford parts distribution centers.

 

well i just ordered em from genuine ford parts and they should be here early next week. it was 78.23 before shipping or tax or anything, which is cheaper than ford quoted me for just one bar

Sweet deal Alon. I know when I tried to order them from a Ford dealer they told me that you need a VIN that specs the size bars you want. Luckily mine has grade 1 bars so when I need them I can get them with my own VIN.

 

Alon, just curious as to how you knew you needed new torsion bars. I see you have an 01.....they're shot already?

 

because i have had them cranked since i got the truck and i offroad ALOT. i have noticed them sagging, and with the recent suspension work i've been doing when i put the truck back on the ground, it was much too low for my liking. Also, i wanted the stiffer bars for a while now, so now i had the excuse to get em.

I am also hoping that i will get some more lift out of these stiffer bars.

 

Yup. Ran into this before. Someone on one of the Ranger boards needed #1 bars and we used the VIN from my truck to get the part numbers that I posted above.

 

Sorry for the tread hacking but I want to know more about the codes on the torsion bars. Do the stiffer ones give you more ride height? How many different codes are there and how do I find out which ones I have? Or maybe you guys could tell me I have a 2004 Ranger FX4 Level 2. Thanks and sorry again.

 

level II should have Code 1 bars in it already but Ford is goofy sometimes..

 

If you want to verify the rate, look at the sticker on the driver door jamb. There is a spring code there and your Level II will probably say 11CC or 1C. Those are the highest rate torsion bars and leaf springs available.

The ride height is set by the torsion bar adjustment.

Aftermarkets are pretty pricey. I just get mine at the junkyard from a Ranger or Explorer with good bars. I went from the crappy F type bars to B's on my relatively light 3.0 Ranger.

 

Mine are sagging also, but how hard are they to instal?

It's not bad really. you need to put the front up supported by the frame and not by the suspension. Then you either need a fairly husky 2-jaw gear puller or the special Ford tool to jack up the preload on the bars so you can take the adjuster bolt and nut-plate out. Then you back off the gear puller until the load is off the t-bar and remove it. Installation is the reverse.
