torsion bar crank
torsion bar crank
Hey guys I was reading some other thing about cranking the torsion bars, but I am confused on what bolts to actually crank. I have this picture here, is it the two outer ones, or the one in the middle?
I finally got it lol. I had to use a bar on the socket. I cranked both sides two full cranks. It didnt seem like it did much, but when I measured it the front bumper was an inch higher than before. The wheelwells didnt seem like they got higher at all. How many times is it safe to crank the bar? I dont want to do it too much that it will damage the truck.
I would suggest using a little penetrating oil as rounding bolt heads off sucks. Jack the front tires off of the ground too. Get a long breaker bar and a GOOD 6 POINT SOCKET! Give her a couple cranks (righty tighty mind you) and try not to split any knuckles.

penetrating oil is going to do nothing to help you here, the bolts have super strength loc-tite on them.
the proper way (gasp) is to do the adjustment with the truck level and tires on the ground, no jack. first loosen the 4 upper control arm to frame bolts, you do this so to not bind the upper arm when changing ride height, next get a tape measure and take primary measurements. then using a 13mm 6 point 1/2" drive socket and a good 1/2" ratchet tighten the bolts slowly equal turns on each side untill the height is where you want it, measure to level then tighten the 4 upper control arm to frame bolts.
this has been beat to death on this site and some do it one way, some do it other ways.
what ever you do dont bottom the bolts against the adjuster blocks and never use a air impact gun to tighten them!
