Opinions on shocks

Ok guys Im looking for shocks for my fiencee's Sport Trac, she does all street driving, and was considering the Rancho RSX they have them on sale for $150.00 for all four and wanted to know if anyone had any experience with them or another compareable shock at a good price.

I believe rancho RSX are made by monroe and very similar to their sensatrac(sp?) line of shocks. In other words for 150$ thats pretty good.

Speaking of shocks if anyone needs a set of stock shocks with 6000 miles on
I could bring them to centralia.

They're nice, I have a set.

Only problem is the ones for the Ranger are too stiffly valved in the rear for the 4x2.

The differences between SensaTracs and RSX are as follows:

Sensatracs have nitrile finished rods, RSX have chrome finished rods. Both are 5/8" diameter and equally strong.

The internals on both, construction wise, are identical.

Sensatracs are valved "softer" than RSX's for the same application.

The RSX's are holding up quite well -- but if softer ride is desirable, go with the Sensatracs.

Overall I rate these shocks GREAT for the front of my truck, good for the rear.

With a sport trac john.. I bet they are valved differently anyway.
vs ranger. Also a Sport trac should have a more even weight balance

I do agree with you on the rsx, but if they are cheaper I would get those.
If the monroe's are cheaper..... you get the pic...

Bilsteins offerings

Ive been looking and reading a lot about the Bilstein shocks and there various offerings. Does anyone know if you can get their various levels of high performance shocks for a stock height Ranger? I.E. If Im going to buy new ones I might as well get something nice...if its only a few dollars more than say stock FX4 LII Bilsteins (dont know model of those).

Ive seen 5100's and 7100's and 5150's...are these out of our leagues?

I had Explorer Pro-Comp ES9000s on my Bronco and was satisfied but wanted more!

Its alot more.. like 3x the price of the stock ones.
Also they make direct fit ones that ARENT the same as the ones from the dealer.
Those are special made for ford (blah).
I do believe the best direct fit one has a small res. of fluid.. but i forget the model its xx50 something. (not sure about that)

So what Bilstein shocks should I get when its time for me to upgrade?

I see quite a few of you are getting those Rancho Air Adjustable!
No one else seems to have a preference for one brand over the other, other than what Mr. Griggs told us about Explorer Pro Comp.

The 3000 series procomp isnt bad. The 9000 is a bit ruff.

For the bilsteins.. Find someone who works at the dealer and can get them
at dealer cost... then get them off him lol.

SO apparently everyone here except the RSX Rancho guys/Griggs and Rand has NO experience with other shocks...COME ON PEOPLE!!!

Ford sells like over 200,000 Rangers a year and no one has changed their stinking shocks? Where are all those silly desert pre-runner people (just kidding) with there 18 feet of wheel travel?

I was figuring this would be an interesting thread cuz EVERYONE will need new shocks eventually...I want my upgrade to be a good one dangnabit!

So I rely on the experience and possible misfortune of others to guide me through life! :)
