So I am new to your sight and pretty new to ford rangers. I have had a few of them and now I have 2002 2wd XLT. This is the first one I want to do some mods on so I'm looking for some help.

I am looking to do a little lift on the truck, because it looks like it is sagging to me. (could be cause the last one I had was an 2003 edge).
I am also looking to get a little bigger tire under there. I looked through the searches and did not see a lot for 2wd, wondering if the lifts are the same for 2wd, and 4wd. I want about a 3 inch lift. I don't do a lot of off roading, just the few camping trips a year.

So what does the cost look like its going to be for the lift and tires, and is it going to ride like ***.

Welcome.

You have a few options as far as lifts go for your 2wd. You can go with a 3in spindle lift or a 3in body lift. Alot of the guys on the forum that have 2wd trucks go with the spindle lift because it is cheap and it looks better then a body lift. Although some opt to do both a spindle and a body lift so they can run 35's. With the spindle you will have to add a leaf (AAL) or blocks in the rear to make it even with the front. With a body lift (BL) there is no need for AAL's.

If you are wanting a 3in lift, I and most would agree that 33's would be your best option. That being said you need to figure out what gears your truck has. 4.10's and
33's are a great combo. You might have 3.73's or 3.55's which would be worse with the bigger tires but absolutly doable.

Do it your self and you are going to save alot of money. The BL kit cost about $250 and the spindle I am guessing at under $500 for front and rear. If you have it professionally installed it will cost alot more.

Tire cost is going to vary alot in price. Your truck will either have 15in or 16in rims. If you are wanting a true 33x12.5 in tire you will want to go with 15in rims. If you have
16's and dont want to get new rims then you are looking at 285/75/16 which is a
32.8x11.5. 15in tires and rims are cheaper.

Just remember, your suspension is nothing like a 2wd EDGE or 4x4....your have coil springs.


Lifted 2wd...

Doetsch(or however it's spelled) 6/4 kit. 6" front, 4" rear....33's and some glass.

 

What is the difference in the 2x4 edge and the 2x4 ranger xlt? I am just looking for a 3" lift that is cheap, good ride quality and won't hurt reliability. Any particular brand better than another?

 

edge has torsion bars, xlt has coils
