Recovery Strap question

Okay so I pulled that Dodge out yesterday he had tow hooks.

I came across someone today and it was just a car no where to hook up.

I got one of these. if the vehicle your pulling out doesn't have a hook or anything how do you do it?

you cant?

unless theres something to hook the D shackle through.

if a car just slid off the road and needs to be drug back onto it, one of those straps with hooks on it will work

You can wrap a tree saver strap around a crossmember, then join both ends with the recovery strap with a shackle. But if it just slid off the road a normal tow strap will still be fine.

I generally take it easy. I find a hole in the frame and hook my tow strap to it. yes...tow strap as the hooks are small enough to hook into any hole in the frame. OR i find a crossmember to hook to, or a control arm. And i'm very careful when that strap it hooked up. And if i'm able to use a recovery strap, i use it whenever possible.

I've got something similar to those too...

Theres a difference between pulling a car back on the road and getting someone un stuck.

Thats how I pulled David (ranger_guy15) out when he went straight off the road and through the snow bank.

He didnt have a rear recovery point, so I just hooked a hook through a random hole in the frame and did a nice easy pull. Most cars have a loop or something in the back to pull from. if not there should be an oval hole at about a 45* angle that is reinforced that you can pull from. Its the same hole that a tow truck J-hook would go into.

And I towed a chevy 2500 3 miles home with a strap just like that.

exactly

gently pulling someone out of a ditch isn't putting nearly as much of a load on the strap compared to yanking someone out of a mud pit.

I use my clevis hooked tow strap for vehicle recoveries all the time (about 7 so far). I just make sure that I do not use the hook to pull. I wrap the strap around the crossmember or tow hook and put it in a slip know and back up til everything is taught and I readjust it if I need to, and then I pull out carefully in 4Lo.

I always tell the people I'm pulling out that I'm not responsible for any damages.
