Need some opinions on a F-250 I'm interested in.

I went and looked at a 2008 F-250 5.4L V8 4x4 yesterday and went back today to test drive it and look at it further. Here's the link to it http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/in...d&cardist=5772. It drove great, accelerated good, brakes were good. The exterior is in good shape, no dents and just a few minor scratches. The interior has a few spots on the seats that should come out with a good clean. The problems I saw with it. The Power Mirrors don't work. There is a little over a foot sized square taken out of the driverside rubber floor and there is a crack in the plastic under the drivers seat. It has the 4wd selector on the floor which I like but I couldn't get it to go into 4wlo and it seemed loose but I'm not sure if its supposed to be like that or not. And the biggest thing I noticed about the truck was that it definitely has been mudded. The outside of the frame looks clean but everywhere under the truck there is mud build up, even on the engine. What do you guys think?

That's why I had to go check it out! That and it has my favorite wheels ha. It also is an XL but has power everything and cruise. The marker lights on the mirrors work, the mirrors just don't move and I'm not sure if there suppose to move in and out on there own. I'm hoping that's something that can be fixed instead of buying new ones. I'm just a little worried about the mud. I can obviously get rid of all the mud but I don't know how much damage it might cause down the road.

You mean like actually move in and out for towing?

The trucks are very nice. I'd just prefer the diesel under the hood. If you don't need that engine then go for the 5.4. We have those as parts trucks at work they get beat to heck and they just take it.

Yeah. Because of it being an XL I'm not sure if there just manual where you pull them in and out yourself or not. I can't tell because the switch that moves the mirrors themselves up and down doesn't work. I would love to have the 6.4L under the hood I just can't afford the price tag on one ha. That's good to know though about the 5.4L.

Are those the same motor's in the F150's? If so you might run into the spark plug issue that those motors have.

Price is good but I would not buy it due to this. People who mud things beat the hell out normally. If its still covered in mud underneath I dought they ever took the time to clean it when they owned it.

Especially if 4lo is not working.

Was this problem throughout all years of 5.4L?

Yeah, I mean I've gone mudding in my truck but I've also clean it thoroughly underneath. Because they haven't the driveshaft and everything else has already got noticeable rust while the outside of the frame looks clean. My buddy who knows a little more about those trucks is going out to look at as well so I'll see what he thinks as well. Thanks for the help guys

I don't really like it. I am interested in a 08-10 F-250 5.4 4x4 as well. The fact that it's an XL is a bit of a turn off. The black plastic looks like crap. It needs paint matched. The issues are also interesting, the 4x4 not working is a big issue, then the mirrors. The mud is not really a big deal.

It says XL but it has basically everything an xlt has besides the manual 4x4 and no Cd player. Since the truck is grey the black doesn't bother but I would color match it. And low doesn't work then again I've never used a manual 4x44x4 so I could of been doing something wrong. High works though. Idk I'm having second thoughts about it. We'll see.

For low I always stop and put it in neutral then put it back into gear. From what you said it sounds like the truck has been beat. I think you can find better

clayton, i would have to consider that there is a wiring issue with the mirrors, i find it hard to believe that both mirrors are not working, i would suspect a bad fuse, relay or switch, as for the 4wd i also have to wonder y just low would not be working, probly a bad shift motor or something and these are all thigns that can be fixed for not too much.

It has a manual transfer case so no shift motor. they can be tricky when trying to get into Low gear. if it is like my dads 94 250 you have to push down and pull back while in neutral and sometimes i cant get it, and sometimes it goes right in.

That's how I did it since that's how you have to do it with a 4wd switch to get it in low. Like you said I can find better even though it is a killer price but for a reason. My truck is still running good, I'm just getting worried about the mileage. One thing I do know is that I def. am going to try and get an 08-10 F-250. Diesel or no Diesel I love the interior the size of the truck and those wheels ha.

idk clay. i would personally pass on it. if the mirrors are to move in and out, then there will be a square button underneath the joystick that controls the mirrors itself. im assuming you know that but just a thought. but the mirrors not working in general would be an issue for me.. theyre damn expensive to replace. mileage isnt bad, and neither is the price. the mud would definately bother me to.. not sure about the 4wd. it could just be a tough shift into low. come to think of it I havent put our 08 into low either so i have no idea how hard it is..

theyre great trucks and have a ton of room inside, but idk about that one with all youve said. btw, hope your doing well bud. hopefully can get a meet together soon or something.

Exactly Chris. Even though 15k is cheap buying any vehicle for that much then going home and having to pressure spray the crap out of the undercarriage doesn't sound very appealing after thinking about it. Plus I also found out that the front 2 fenders have been repainted and after talking to some people at work, that this truck sounds like it could be a flood victim from when we had alot of rain mid summer which would explain the square cut out in the floor above the drain plugs...

But yeah man, I'm doing great. Hope your doing the same. I agree a fall meet would be awesome!

Why are you dead set on a 08-10? I know they're sweet trucks but they are also pricey. I paid a little over 17k for my 01 with 106k miles on it. No where near as nice as a 08-10 but it's a sweet truck none the less.

I just really like the looks of those years inside and out. And with those wheels on it, it just looks really good. I know there kinda pricey but next year they'll go down a little more. I'm going to keep saving and hopefully I'll be able to afford one. Ok I guess dead set is a little permanent Haha, I would also be super happy to have a clean low mileaged 01-03 7.3L.

HAHAHA Clay it sounds like we are looking for the same vehicle to replace our Rangers. I want either a low mileage 01-03 ext or crew cab 4x4 7.3 F250 with less than 100k or a 08-10 ext cab 4x4 5.4 F250 with less than 50k. I love the look of the 08-10, especially like beards with chrome bumpers and color match everything else. Not sure what wheels I would want though, not a big fan of stock. And I need to see if I can find one with manual trans and manual tcase.

Come to think of it my dad 08 5.4 F250 4x4 OffRoad was auto trans and manual tcase....

I've acutally got 4 of the newer style XL's. lol.
Same mirrors, altho they aren't power. just manual pull in and out. as far as the manual transfer case goes. Its eaiser to get into 4low than 4high. its all fluid and smooth shifting.
I say go for it, there awesome trucks to drive. My 4 have the 6.2 under the hood, but still they're powerful and if you like being the king of the road, your second only to a Semi in that.
