98 Ranger

Just got a 98 Ranger XLT with 135,000 it runs like new, no oil leaks nothing but maybe some minor surface rust on the frame but. Do you guys think it’s safe to drive it on a small 200-500 mile trip?

Yes, but you are there not us

Does the CEL(check engine light) work?
It should come on when key is turned on, and then go off after engine starts
If CEL bulb is not working then you could have some warning codes and not know it

Are the tires OK, no abnormal wear?

Its it an automatic or manual?
If automatic see what fluid on dipstick looks like and "smells" like

The Quick Lube places will check fluids in differentials and manual trans if you have oil changed

2.5l, 3.0l or 4.0l engine?
Any would be fine but each has its own things to check

You can download 1998 owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/

It shows where all warning lights are and what they mean
Also has maps for the engine and cab fuse boxes, and what each fuse and relay is for
