2005 Diesel Excursion
101k on it.
6.0 Power Stroke

From Texas. Fully loaded. Looks like it lived a semi rough life. Not perfect as there is some cosmetic stuff that needs fixing. ie: driver side mirror slight crack and front grill is cracked in one spot.
I am still looking for a block heater cable (fingers crossed).

As for the block heater since its an 05 and from Texas it probably does not have the cord. It should have the heating element installed though. Here is the location for the cord http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/articl...icle-05-20.php If it does not have the cord the Ford part # is 5C3Z-6B018-DA
And as always, every 6.0l owner should have an Edge Insight to monitor the coolant and oil temp deltas.

My 03 was a tow vehicle for my 2 cars. Sold cars, got a good offer on my X and sold it too. Cleared house one month and the day after my gas X was gone I was sad. Explained to the wife I needed another X, but diesel this time. Truthfully it is my first diesel. She says its way too loud

Just finished looking at the article.
I went for an oil change, had no details on when it was last done and I was out and about and had 30 mins to kill. Hit Mr. Lube.
Filter Charge $14.00
Diesel Package $138.00 (Castrol Tection Extra 15x40 i think the jugs said)
Oil Filter included.
Total: $175.97.
Due to the warranty I need to have it done outside of my house at a real shop. Is Mr Lube a real shop? LOL, perhaps. I havent had issues with them.
Mr Lube said Diff rear low fuid, T-case low, Front Diff like mudd.
To fix was $120 + 120+ $99 + 150 (diff / diff / tcase /trans )
I asked them to see if they could see the block heater cable near the starter, they could not and they said there isnt one. I am not confident they knew one way or the other.
I went over to Ford which was packed as usual and was curious if they could run the vin and see if a block heater was installed. They said the only way to tell was to put it on the hoist.
Cost to do diffs, tcase and trans was $180 + 180 + 180 + ?) Far more pricier.
Edge Insight. What can you tell me about it. Why would I want it?
Tell me about this diesel fuel gelling additive if you can as well. LOL

Bought through a dealer here. Didnt do any of the work myself on the import.
I do know that you need to review RIV to ensure you can bring it in and some requirements.
You can use a broker. I know there are some things required such as daylight running lights and bumpers need to be compliant.
From what I recall, you need to
a) ensure the vehicle is allowed to be imported, RIV
b) send your ownership, bill of sale to the border where you plan to cross a few days ahead of time
c) get the vehicle updated to Canadian specs (DLRs and bumpers etc) and then I know Canadian tire can do the review / certification.
d) goto DMV and register it in your name.
Thats a very very lose idea of what I think it takes. I always figured it would be easier to pay the US citizen some money to bring it to your shop in Canada. Either way you get mad love from the tax man here :)
Yea, we have Excursions here and now the Max LTD Expeditions. I was curious why it was in KM as well. The answer i got was that the vehicle may have been already a Canadian vehicle, bought by an American and shipped over. Could have been everything to do with package / diesel etc. But I dont know the real answer.

Well, you want an edge insight, or an scangaugeII will do the job as well for less money. You want one because the stock gauges don't tell you what you need to know about the health of your oil cooler. The 6.0l diesel suffers from a poorly designed oil cooler that is prone to clogging. If it clogs, it will blow the EGR cooler and shortly after it will blow the headgaskets(this is where that awful rep the 6.0 has comes from). All of this will happen without you even realizing there is a problem until you have white smoke pouring from the tailpipe and a $4000 repair bill staring at you. If you have an Edge insight gauge you can watch your coolant and oil temperatures. If these two temps spread more than 15* apart at highway speeds then your oil cooler is clogged. You can have an oil cooler repaired at a dealer for much less than headgaskets!
A gauge like the insight is purely optional, but just keep in mind that without one you could be one of the tens of thousands of 6.0l owners that hate their trucks because of the repair bills.
Keep some Diesel Kleen 911 in the truck. It's in a white bottle with the diesel fuel additives at most every auto parts store. Use the recommended dose in each tank of fuel when its real cold outiside and it will keep the fuel from gelling in the extreme cold.
A gauge like the insight is purely optional, but just keep in mind that without one you could be one of the tens of thousands of 6.0l owners that hate their trucks because of the repair bills.

Leave it plugged in overnight with anything less than like 10 degrees i believe.
proper startup is usually just turn the key, wait for the light, fire it up.

Diesel Kleen 911 is really only for emergencies. Dump some in the fuel tank if you're having trouble with the truck not running because it's being starved for fuel or if you're losing power. I run regular diesel kleen in almost every tank just to keep things clean, it helps to prevent fuel gelling as well.
It reached 0* here last winter (thats super cold for us ) and I didn't have any trouble with my truck starting or running, that's without plugging it in since I don't have a heater cord.
BTW I wouldn't recommend the Edge Insight if I didn't think it was worth it. It's a great gauge and it will monitor tons of things besides oil and coolant temps, not to mention it will read and clear codes as well.

Need to take it in to Ford for a few things...
pull codes for door keypad
tcase / trans flush
check for cord for block heater, if not there, get install.
I may need to have them check the dash for the coil light.
