f150 guys

Well, this is a question for anyone with an F150..

my price limit is 20K though i would like to spend less.

I need some advice on some options..

the truck i am looking for is a 04-07 F150 FX4

which year do you guys suggest of these?

here are the options i am wanting opinions on.

crew cab or super cab?

Center console shifter or steering wheel shifter?

leather or cloth?

I KNOW i want the following options:

Short bed

Power sliding rear window

Power EVERYTHING

I want captains chairs, but is this available only with the center shifter?

So give me your oppinions on the options i am not sure on.

get 06+ if you dont want valve tick, crew cab is a must, and i prefer a wheel shifter, fit more people if need be. as far as cloth or leather, i have cloth and my uncle has leather and he says my cloth is more comfortable then his leather

Def get a crew cab. I really like the console shifter. I'm a leather fan, but really it's what you think will be better. If you're moving to Florida, you'll have a hot climate, therefor that leather's going to get real hot.

As long as you have good tint and park not facing the sun, leather is fine.

I have a super cab and it's plenty of room for me, then again I don't have anyone I carry around all the time except my GF. I'll prolly end up trading this one in within a year and get a crew cab in white or DSG just cause haha. But for now, this one suits my needs. I also have the center console shifter and actually like it, keeps the steering wheel much less cluttered and open.

I have a steering wheel shifter and Captains Chairs...Crew is the way to go! get the 5.4L.

Leather is easier to clean but requires more care..with keeping it from cracking. Cloth stains if it is light...its personal really I have cloth in the truck and leather in the Magnum..i could care less.

Crew cab. I'd avoid the cloth at all costs, unless the truck is 09+ they have redesigned cloth. I have the black/grey cloth in mine and it shows EVERYTHING!!! They are way worse than the black/grey seats in my ranger. If there was one single thing I could change about my f150 it would be the seats hands down. Leather FTW.

The black/gray cloth does stain easily. The #1 thing I wish I could change would be to have leather as well.

Personally, I would go for a 2006+ crew cab, leather, center console shift (more common on FX4) and 3.73 gears.
Depends on you though. I HATE being a passenger so I almost always drive when we go anywhere with a group of friends or anything. So I really wanted a comfortable back seat for adults. The supercab is pretty roomy though if you come across one for the right deal. When I looked for my truck, I saw very few trucks with a power rear slider. Mostly only saw them on Lariats, and I read a few of complaints about power sliders being noisy.
The reason I say 2006+ is because there is a rare issue with injectors I think on 04s and 05s, though I believe Ford will cover them up to 100k miles. I don't remember the details. I also like the round fog lights although that is a minor thing.

Keep in mind, a loaded up crew cab is probably going to sell for quite a bit more than a super cab due to demand. You will probably get much more truck with a super cab for the same price.

thanks guys.. Hey brian, so... yeah, i want your truck:) haha.. If i could find a white crew cab FX4 like yours its a done deal haha.. I guess the power rear slider isnt that big of a deal.. and I have to have the captains chairs.

What do you guys think i should be looking at price wise for an 06 crew cab FX4( comes stock with 3.73 gears correct?), leather captains, center shifter, and less than 70K miles?

The tan cloth seats aren't bad at all at showing stains, maybe I just don't get as dirty lol.

Crew cab, 5.4, cloth seats, center shifter, EATC, sunroof, full power, sliding rear window is pretty much my dream truck. I got mighty close to it but $$$ became a factor.

How much money do you have? Anything is for sale for the right price! lol
I think all the FX4s have 3.73s. The axle code on the door jam is B6 for 3.73 w/ limited slip.
I would guess you are looking at low to mid 20's for what you want. I don't know, price went up few months back during the clunkers BS, but I would still say lower 20's should buy one.

i paid 23900 for my 07 SCAB FX4. and that was the cheapest i could find that new. most 06+ was 25k or more. had to look at 04/05 to get 20k or less, unless newer was higher milage, and most of them under 20k were XLTs. hell, i looked at an 05 crew cab lariat 4x4 and they wanted 25k for it. your gonna have to spend a little more than you want to get EXACTLY what you want, at least around here anyways

Some internet auto sales thing

its on 04 though which i would have the plugs and injectors replaced..

The dealers around here are ****** though and not willing to deal at all. Bunch of stupid country dealerships with old farts that have been there for 30 years, and won't sell a truck unless they can make a pounder on it.
I would think down in Florida if he looks in bigger areas he could get a little better deal. My car buying experience here has been absolutely terrible.

haha, yeah the smaller dealerships are always harder to deal with.. There are a few really big nation-wide dealerships up in omaha that we will go look at that are known to deal. so we shall see in the mean time i am really liking the one i posted the link of.. Only thing is its on 04..

Their detail guy sucks! lol
Look up Texas Direct Auto if you are willing to drive a bit. I nearly bought a truck from them and drove down as they were making better deals than anyone around here. They seem to do a very good job of photographing and documenting the condition of the vehicles.

I haven't actually bought anything from them, but worked with a guy on the phone and email quite a bit and he was friendly and straight forward.

When I was looking, I found a ton of crew cabs under 20k all with around 50-75k mi. Even at dealerships. Just keep looking around I would say 18-22k will get you a nice truck.

And I have the power sliding window, it's a bit loud but not bad.
