Had a real rough night

Went out for a night of boozing and good wholesome fun. Got pretty trashed and got my friend to drive me and well he isnt used to my truck nor the power it has. Got a little skinny pedal happy and misjudged a turn and found a tree at about 50mph-ish. The result isnt pretty

buckled the cab

crushed the rad support the whole way back into the motor

yet somehow the grill is fine?

The wrecker guy said it was amazing we both walked away from it. Had we been in anything smaller than a one ton chassis truck we would be dead. Built Ford Tough is a little more than a slogan to me anymore

KLC Apr 24, 2011 08:41 PM

Wow! But, that's what happens when you take a turn going 50 MPH in a one ton truck.

kanuck15 Apr 24, 2011 08:43 PM

well we didnt take the turn. that was the problem.................

RazorsEDGE Apr 24, 2011 08:55 PM

Ouch man! Glad you are ok. So Whats going to happen to the truck now?

Timberwolf Apr 24, 2011 08:59 PM

Holy crap you guys are lucky! And that is all that matters!

bigandrw Apr 24, 2011 09:33 PM

Dang man. Glad your ok. What's gonna become of the truck?

kanuck15 Apr 24, 2011 09:40 PM

rebuilding it, stripping it to the frame and doing it back up to showroom quality

yeah we shouldnt have walked away but hey we call it an easter miracle

01RangerEdge Apr 24, 2011 09:45 PM

your friend owes you a box

powerranger262 Apr 25, 2011 04:45 PM

Was it wet out? Those racing slicks on there probably had a little to do with it.

kanuck15 Apr 25, 2011 07:07 PM

it was a dirt road so traction wasnt good even at its best.

On an upside note we hooked a chain to the left front sheet metal and pulled it with the tractor, got it so the fan could turn. Truck fired up and purred. So thats a serious stepping stone. Also a local body guy/mechanic stopped by and looked over the frame. Said if it is tweeked at all its not noticeable and body shims could correct it. This is in the back of the frame. I measured the front all up and its as true as it was the day she was on the showroom

FULLSCALE Apr 25, 2011 07:30 PM

Damn, that sucks to see but good call for not driving after drinking, it could have been even worse!

kanuck15 Apr 25, 2011 07:37 PM

It sure could have. Turns out the kid I picked to DD wasnt exactly that sober. Oh well we all lived and I always wanted to pull the cab off the truck and redo the frame with POR so here is my shot

morris Apr 25, 2011 10:05 PM

if he wasn't sober, i'd be making him pay for repairs. that cost is far less then him loosing his license or worse.

I'd still have the frame checked out, just as one of those secondary things.
but man, you guys sure were lucky.

So let me get this straight, your DD wasn't sober, you crashed, could have died and all you say is "Oh well" are you ****ing serious right now? Wow.....just wow

What's the point in throwing a hissy fit after the fact?

He was drunk, so it was probably difficult to gauge how drunk someone else is. No point in getting all worked up now, it already happened, nothing will change that. He walked away, that's what's important
