4wd problems need help

Ok guys i have an 03 f150 we took my truck out shooting trap yesterday and today and when you go in reverse the 4wd works but if we were going forward it seemed liked it wasn't working just the back tires would spin. When we turned left or right there was a pull like it does when you try and turn slow in 4hi then it would pop has anyone had this happen to there truck or have any idea what it could be?

I'm thinking maybe something in the case isn't engaging all the way.

Its gonna be something slipping in your transfer case.

I know this thread is ancient but for informational purposes I thought is post my experience. My had a similar issue. The front hubs are actuated by vacuum. Mine would engage in the transfer case and click and pop but wouldn't engage. After fighting this for a while I found I could tap on the solenoid and it would engage and work fine until I took it out of 4x4. I would then have to tap it every time I needed it to work. A few months later I heard a high pitch whistle and tracked it down to a melted pcv hose causing me to lose vacuum. After I fixed that,I never had another issue with my 4x4 not engaging. Hopefully this will save someone sometime.
