Rear diff

I need a little input here.

I'm going to replace the rear end, It was replaced with a rear from a 6cyl auto ,(mine is a 2.3) This diff is geared way too high.
What do you recommend for ratio 4.73 or 4.35 ,,I Only use the truck for short trips and and light hauling. I need more power and don't want to loose the fuel mileage.:anyone[1]:anyone[1]:busted:

I'm on my phone so forgive me if you have a signature, but what is your tires size.

We need more info. The gear ratios you gave don't exist or were not offered in a Ranger so it doesn't make sense. Please come back and try again.

Assuming you've got the mentioned 2.3L, I'm going to assume it's the 2.3L lima found in 97 and older Ranger. I'm also going to assume you've got a manual transmission.......those should have came with 3.73:1 gear ratio and if auto they should have came with 4.10:1 gear ratios. 4.10 is the deepest offered from the factory in a Ford Ranger. Your axle you had swapped in came from a 6cyl automatic.....which tells us nothing as they came with 3.28, 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10 ratios.

The wheel diameter size of 14" doesn't tell us much either....it's the tire size that's in question here.

4.10 should be a great ratio for a power lacking 2.3L Lima engine.

3.73:1 was the stock rear that is what I need. I sure am glad one of us knows what I'm talking about doing . :ford: Thanks

93 ranger rear.
The tag says S370A 73752L09
This is on the diff that was originally removed.
It is a 2.3L with a 5 speed manual trans.
As I have to replace the rear ( TRUCK HAS NO POWER )
I just want to go with the original or lower ratio. Fuel mileage is about 16 with this diff and I can't get out of 3rd without really winding it up
