Ways to bring back/gain more power

Hey everyone, so as you all know the F150 will be getting some new shoes int he near future( as soon as 4WP gets them off backorder), and will also be getting a 4-6" lift as well.. Now eventually i plan on re-gearing and throwing in lockers, but in the meantime what are somethings i can do to bring back any lost power and possible gain some?

the truck is stock right now except for a flowmaster exhaust system(that has a possible leak), and the GOTTS mod.

Thanks for the help!

OH, and if you have any suggestions for a specific programmer, that would be great! ( cant decide between gryphon, php, etc)

Gryphon is by PHP. I would go with one of the custom tunes CS or CTS. My cousin just got one in his 05 FX4 and those things are sweet!!! If it didn't cost so darn much I would upgrade

I have the Edge Insight CS on my 6.0L. Now I know thats a whole different subject than your 5.4L and the Insight isn't a programmer.

The Insight CS is the same thing that PHP offers minus the tunes. I have to say its pretty awesome. The stuff it can monitor is endless. I'd recommend the Gryphon CS based solely on the monitoring capabilities. And since PHP has the reputation for writing the best 5.4 tunes then its a win win for you.

Here's mine doing what it does best......keeping my 6.0L safe.

Get something from PHP with custom tunes.
The new programmers look cool if you want to spend the money but the Edge/Gryphon will program the truck all the same.

ill have to get on their website and see what they are charging for the new CS's.. I still have to get a lift, and i would really love to get gears, unless the Gryphon would kind of make up for the lack of gears?

I would talk to Brian more about that, I have no experience with gears. I don't mind driving my truck with 35s and 3.73s though with the tuner on. The lift wouldn't help though

No it doesn't make up for the tire size, more engine power doesn't make up for the gearing disadvantage. It helps in some ways, but after re-gearing it feels so much better. With lower gearing it works so much less when taking off from a stop, heavy accelerating, etc. There is a lot less transmission slip. One of the first things I did when I re-geared was backed off the shift pressures because they were harsh. I didn't realize how much they were bumped up to make up for the tires.

But you'll really like having a programmer anyway, it is so much nicer to drive, so much better throttle response and shifting.

If I ever get back over that way, we'll have to drive both back to back.
Basically the truck just doesn't feel as labored as it was before, and it doesn't constantly have to downshift on small hills. It holds overdrive with the torque converter locked so much easier, passes easier, etc. The transmission doesn't have to slip as much to get moving either.

Gotcha, I didn't think about the transmission. If your already having lockers done I would just go ahead and get the gears done as well.

What size tire are you going? Think about it this way the v8 has plenty of power to push the tires. So i'd go lift first if your going 35" tires. If your going bigger then I would save a little longer and do both at the same time.

going with 35's on stock wheels. I agree with you though, the V8 should have the power especially with the tuner, gears would help but i think a lift would be more benificial at first.

Would it be gears and lockers or just gears?

If your leaving it on stock wheels do the gears/locker before the lift then. The f150's can still offroad just fine with 35's on the stock wheels.

Well, i want to get lockers, but honestly dont really have the money Right now.. I have the money either for the lift/install or gears/install.. not lockers. so i think ill just get the lift now, so i can play when i am home on leave next month, then get gears/lockers in a few months

Nothin wrong with that, I was just curious. Yeah I think I would do that combo too. It would just make sense to do gears and locker together and pay that install fee once.
