95 Ranger 2.3 with 170K starting issues

Hey Guys,

The truck starts right up most all the time, but if it stalls and it's not warmed up, or if you turn it off, it may not or will not restart without a big several hour rest. I think she has a new fuel pump and filter.

Old truck, I'm the fifth owner, island truck, so mechanics are not to be found or they are drunk or working towards it.

Best, Mainer

Does it turn over and attempt to start? What do you mean by stalling... On its own, or due to driver error?

95 Ranger with 2.3

Yes, she cranks right over, she just won't fire. Also I think I'm smelling something foul after 5 or 10 seconds of cranking.

Electrical foul or gas/exhaust foul? If electrical, then I would suspect that's your cause, unless it's your starter. Check for any hot (to the touch) wires, loose connections, or suspicious connectors in the ignition or fuel arena.

95 Ranger with 2.3

It is a foul gas like smell I think.

The starter is spinning away, I was thinking maybe computer related, it takes time for it to reset, then it starts right up.

Thank you

Did it sit long before you bought it?
Old gas? Dead cat in the air supply?
Or maybe one of those drunk mechanics peed in the tank.

wont start

Hi I am new here hope I can help. I had the same problem many people have posted about not starting. I almost installed a new fuel pump in the snow bank. I put in a new plugs, wires, bat, air filter, fuel filter, cleaned air sensor. still ran like $hit and would not start from time to time.

Playing around under the hood I found a rough looking alt. wire. Fixed it and it has been fine ever since

Check your ALT. I was not getting enough voltage to operate the fuel pump
