Swapped my 2002 Ranger hood for a 2000 Ranger hood

Did it today with ShadyLuke.

He is now the proud owner of a heavy, "powerdome" 2002 Ranger hood on his 2000 Ranger.

Whereas I am not the delighted owner of a lightweight, aluminum 2000 XLT hood on my 2002 Edge.

Why? Weight and visibility. With the lift and 35's I can't see enough in front of me with powerdome when offroading. I have a better view, particularly towards the passengers side now.

The aluminum hood is also probably 20 pounds or more lighter than the fiberglass one from my 2002.

All in all, I'm very happy. It doesn't hurt that Luke's hood was only a year old after it was replaced to repair accident damage last year.

I'll try and get some tomorrow, Bill. In point of fact, the 2002 hood looks better on the 2000 Ranger than the 2000 does on mine.

The only "issue" is the gap between the front edge of the 2000 hood and my grill. It was actually too big a gap (aethetically speaking) on the 2000's, and it's also on mine but it's more noticeable I think.

But it's a subtle thing, and I'm more about function than form so I'm fine with it. If it ever bothers me enough, I'll find some way to disguise or minimize it.

Ha ha! Well I should have said I am NOW the owner, etc...

Offroading with it on sharp inclines, especially at night is not a good thing. The Edge hood SUCKS as an offroad accessory. Sitting on a pillow would have only made me bump my head, lol...

The Edge hood LOOKS better, but the older hoods are much lighter, and easier to see over. If all you want is looks, keep the Edge hood. If you need to see where you're going in rough terrain, lose it.

Freudian Slip?

The Freudian slip is an error in human action, speech or memory that is believed to be caused by the unconscious mind.

So, your unconcious mind hates it huh?

Swapping hoods makes that much of a difference? I wouldn't think it would make a night and day difference.

Well as far as I am concerned if John decides the XLT hood is not his style and would rather the powerdome hood back on his truck I am willing. I want him to be happy too. The gap he is talking about is about the same as it was on my truck. I could fit a thumb under the lip of it ans above the grill. I bet we could all come up with an idea to fix this. I would suggest one of those bug deflectors but that would get destroyed in Wharton and would restrict visibility.

Some rubber bulb seal would prevent crup from getting in, wouldn't look toooo bad

Itz not that stuff will get in its that the front edge of the hood pitches up away from the grill shell. It comes doen to form over function and John prefers function.

I want to do the same on my single cab. If anyone in Texas has black get hold of me. I'll trade the power dome for the super light. I have an xlt with the light hood, but it is gold.
