got pulled over for nightshades :(
So the other day i was heading to a funeral and while on the toll road i get pulled over. I noticed the cop about 5 minutes before he actually pulled me over, being a 3 lane highway i was in the very right lane the cop was in the very left lane about 5 cars length back. I am going 65ish and he puts his blinker on and scoots over one lane, then leaves his blinker on for about a minute then gets like 5 feet behind me and puts his lights on. I was driving my chick was in the car, i know we didn't look suspicious because i was in a suit, my girl was in a dress. The cop touches my right tail light then comes to the window and says its illegal to put any film or paint on tail lights, unless it comes stock... So i pull the " I just bought some nightshade paint from the local pepboys, i dont see what the problem is here" I also told him i see many many trucks and cars alike that have nightshaded tails.. He goes on to say that he has also seen many cars with dark tails and he told me when he see's them, he always pulls the person over.
I personally don't give a **** what the police say, but that's just my opinion. It's just a fix it ticket ($25 bucks) which i will be buying some extra stock tail lights, put those on to clear the ticket.. Then put my night shades back on.
I have had my tails night shaded for about 2 months and just this one DICK cop has to screw it over. I have passed many many many cops and they do nothing! As long as i don't attract attention to myself its usually fine.
What you guys think?

i agree with the cop, nightshaded or tinted tails are stupid. sorry, just my opinion. it may look cool but its a safety hazzrd. the cops not being a dick for doing his job, if its illigal in your state, than its on you. i almost rear ended some tool on the highway in a blizzard one day becuase the tint was so dark on his tails that you couldnt even see them untill you were right up on him.

if you speed, don't get mad at the cop sitting there with a radar trap, for giving you a speeding ticket... you know the risk when you did it...
that being said, i'll try my best to get out of a ticket... but don't get bitter at him for doing his job... i would have played the "as far as i know sir, these were a factory option, i bought the truck with them on" he doesn't need to know if you painted them or not

you got to pay to play the game. i got a $135 ticket cause my license plate is mounted at an angle. i have had many cops follow me, and one finally ticketed me for it. hell, the guy that owned the truck before me was a cop himself. probably not worth buying another set of tails to go to court with as you miss time from school or work, and lose more money that way. just pay the fine and be done with it.

Yeah in California (not sure where else) you can bring a fix it ticket to a police officer and have them sign it off or what not. Of course after i pay the fee, and get it fixed.

I have tinted tails, but the tint is so light that it doesnt affect the illumination of the tails/brakes in any way. and since it is a set of aftermarket tails and not nightshade, it looks stock.

Sounds like you are an idiot. Sorry to have to tell you that.
You are pissed because the officer is doing his job, pulling over someone who is violating a law that can cause a safety concern. Making your tail lights less visible is stupid and illegal, and is asking to get rear ended if you ask me.
I'm sure if you called the police because you got robbed, you'd be pissing and crying because he didn't get there fast enough as well. It's only convenient when things work out your way, isn't it?
I'm glad the officer is pulling people over for that though. Dark painted tail lights are one of my huge pet peeves. I hate driving at night in the rain and getting behind some jerk who thinks it's cool to paint his lights dark or put black covers on them.
Oh I guess he missed the HIDs too huh? Hmm....

Andrew, I hear your frustration.
I was stopped after supposedly "rolling a stop" and the cop I had that day was a real Jonny-do-Gooder go by the book POS and he tried to ding me for EVERYTHING. First off he rambled off on me not coming to a complete stop for at least 5 seconds. Then tried to tell me that my 31" BFG KO's were not stock and were way too large for the truck. Then tried to get a rise out me over my window tint being illegal. Then told me that my license plate covers were illegal. I had smoked license plate covers over my front and rear plates for years, along with my tint, and never got razzed about it. Needles to say the cop just let me go with no tickets, he just wanted to see what I'd say or do. Guess he thought I was a teenage punk ***, but quickly realized that I wasn't and he really didn't have much to nail me on under the circumstances. There's young inexperienced rookie cops for ya. Must have been his first day without his training officer with him.
I like your idea about putting on some stockers to clear the ticket. Just watch that he doesn't nab you again.
