'09 Ranger, timing chain broke, engine seized.

Been a while since we were on the Forum, but have definitely gotten our share of good advice in the past. Hoping for a little help with this.
2009 Ranger XLT, Supercab, 2.3L. 170,100 miles.

My son was on the freeway at about 85-90 MPH, and suddenly suffered all the common effects of a broken timing chain. Engine stopped running, all the dash warning lights came on, Lots of oil sprayed on the undercarriage, coolant all over the engine bay and windshield, black smoke out the tailpipe. Later we tried turning it over and sounded like no compression. Now it wont turn over at all. He was out of state when this happened and the mechanic it was towed to said his opinion was that the timing chain failed and it wasnt worth trying to rebuild the engine. Its currently sitting in our driveway in California.

Question... I've decided to sell it rather than try to repair it or replace the engine. Just before the engine seized, the transmission was completely rebuilt by Aamco, with warranty. The body is rough. The interior is rough. Tires near new. Looking for opinions on what to ask for this truck to sell it. I have no idea what to ask for this truck. Questions? just ask...
Thanks,
Ron

Won't get much from what you have described and a non running will be even less.

Probably won't be worth more than $1k since the engine likely has at least one hole in it given the description.

Find similar vehicles in your area, craigslist, truck trader, ect

Running vehicles of course
Get a quote on the repair of your vehicle, or guesstimate
Subtract it from the average "running vehicle" price

Add $1,000 and list it for that price, if no calls then start dropping the price

Seller can set an "asking price"
But only the Buyer can set a value when they actually pay for it

So what something is "worth" is an unknown until it is sold

Sounds more like it threw a rod rather than a timing chain. It doesn't matter much as the engine is toast. It might pay to have someone install a junk yard engine if you can find one cheap.
