102" antenna

so my antenna is good and all, kinda, but 1. i want a better look, 2. want better performance, if possible with a 102". I personally like the look of a 102" and with the tie down. Ive only seen a few pictures, id love to see more to convince me, i think HighRoller has one.

So, if you could throw out positives and negatives and pictures of this antenna it would be great. my only other option would be to run duals up by the cab. Also anything else you think i should have done to get better performance. (we have a local cb shop, i just wanna know what exactly to ask him)

i see radio shack has one for like 25 bucks???

Oh one more thing, i dont have my antenna grounded (that i know of) so maybe some info on how to do that exactly.

thanks!

i don't know about the tie down but i have a 102" whip and i like the look and the preformance aint bad either. you just have to watch for low hanging branches sometimes, i have seen a whip crack a windshield.

yeah height really isnt a problem for me, but do you know what i mean by the tie down? i think its like a hook that goes above the passenger door and you bend it down in hook onto it when you wont be using it much.

do you have any pics of it?

yeah i see now. mines mounted on the tool box right near the cab its just as easy to leave it up for me unless theres a low roof i need to get under or something.

okay, yeah, the hook would only be necessary if you have it mounted in the very rear, like mines is now.

alright, i dropped my radio off today to get peaked and tuned. we both figured it would be best to do that first, see how it performs, then go from there. so i will know tomorrow if i am getting a new antenna or not. first i had him look at my setup, and he unplugged my coax from the radio and plugged somthing into it (swr meter i suppose?) and he said hes never seen a better matched system.

he also told me to consider an amp, about 120$, they are illegal, but he said it would take my output from like 5w to 65w. but i think in the end i will go with the 102, the elephant mount, and my peaked and tuned radio.

oh he gave me a great analogy as to where you have your antenna mounted, he said something like if i throw a golfball at the ground 1 foot in front of me, it will go very high but now very far, hence throwing it and it hittiing the ground 5 feet out, it will go out farther. So, where mine is now, back drivers side, i will get great ahead of me, to the right of me, and behind to the right. Not so good to the left or behind to the left, because the signal has no ground to bounce off of. Going forward, it can bounce off the very front of the truck and go a great distance.

now i really want a police scanner =]

oh and are there ANY pictures of you guy's antennas or mounts?????

Ahhhem. It was mine, it's a stainless steel whip from radio shack. They'll probably have to order it, but it's like $25. I definitely got out better with it on, but it hit everything..

Marcus, I know I say this to everyone, but a box is a horrible place for an antenna bracket. Ground is terrible on a toolbox.
