1998 Ranger Buying Advice

Hello to everyone! I am currently looking to buy a used Ranger, and looking to do so on a budget. I have tracked one down, and I got the price down to $3600. I got the car fax on it, and it is clean. All it showed was title registration. Here is the link to it:

Gold Class Motors - Car Details

Is the price of $3600 to high for this truck? I have driven it, it seems solid. The body has some flaws, but nothing major. Everything works on it. The under carriage has some surface rust. I think that comes from being in NE Ohio though because every truck/car seems to have that.

Any opinion would be appricated!

Looks pretty solid. Just dont expect much out of that 2.3 w/the supercab. Make sure the A/C works. When I was looking around recently I found an '04 that had a leaked out A/C that didn't work at all. As for the frame surface rust, no big deal. Just get some POR 15 paint and touch it up. Look at the rear spring hangers and make sure they aren't rusted too bad. Rangers seem to hold their value pretty well but I'd look on KBB, etc to find a retail price depending on condition and miles. Negotiate from there.

Make sure if you are buying something to get what you want. $10 extra a month to get an option or two you cant live without is well worth it.

Hello fellow Akronite.

Yeah thats not bad. I don't know about a supercab with a 2.5L 4 cylinder though. Mine has zero get-up. The manual trans helps though.

Rust is the norm, as you already know. If you don't want that start shopping for trucks out of state. I will never buy another used vehicle from the rust-belt ever again. Mason Dixon and below only.

welcome, from yet another akron person.....it looks like a pretty nice truck to me. $3600 seems to be a decent price from a dealer, its kinda hard to talk them down much from that anymore. But good luck on whatever you decide to do

I think its a little high on price for a 2wd with a 4cyl. The ext cab helps but I've had problems getting 2000 out of 4cylder trucks in the 98-00 range.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. I got him down to $3000 and I think I'm going to go with it. I realize it is a 4 cyl and has little power, but for what I would use it for, it will work fine. This will be a replacement for a 20 y/o full size GMC and I am looking forward to the better MPG.
