1st post!!! question about shift knob.
well as the title says, this is my irst post on the forum and i am a new member. im going to go ahead and post the little smiley smoking the blunt :439: anyway, i have a 2004 for ranger, 3.0 liter v6 engine, stick shift. its pretty cool, but i got a question about the shift knob at at the top of the stick. is it possible to take it off and replace it with like a skull shift knob you can buy at walmart? it doesnt twist off, is there any way to get it off? thanks. lou.:439:

It held on by some kind of glue. You just have to pull it straight up to get it off but its really well glued in there. I haven't tried to take mine off yet.
mine came off whels shifting on to second. it just slides off. maybe tap it with a hammer and try and pull it off.
My old one came off just by twisting really hard but I believe there are teeth in there that broke off when that happened...
Just yank and twist on it real hard and it will come.
i don't have a stick but theres a thread already about gettin it off that will prolly help you. here it is:https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ght=shift+knob. The Search tool is amazing on this site BTW. Good luck.

lol yeah. I figured i would just go ahead and tell him now b4 he keeps postin topics that have already been covered.
Just do what I did in my '95. Go off mudding! And before you know it it will fall off from the hard shifting.
Is it also possible to get rif of that plastic around it, and make it appear as just a stick? idk what that plastic is called.
You mean the shift boot or like the thing with the cup holders?
its the plastic surrounding the stick, not the cup holders. its surrounding the stick all the way down to the floor into the little bumps.

sorry, had to I've tried to take mine off a few times, but honestly I failed every time... it may not be as easy as you think...if you are ok with damaging the original knob, try using heat and or a press of some sort |
