2000 Ranger will not stay running
Hello,
I drove my truck home from work, and the next day when i tried to start it, it turns over and starts but only runs for about 2 seconds then shuts off. Ive tried multiple times and its still does this.
I checked if there was anything blocking the air to the throttle body, but its all clear. Someone suggested to me to replace the fuel filter, which i did and it still is not running. im not getting any codes. Maybe the fuel pump?
my truck is the 6 Cylinder 3.0L. any help would be great. I cant figure out if its the fuel or something else,
Thanks

Welcome to the forum
First thing I have to ask...........................have you added any gasoline to the gas tank?
Don't care what gauge says, don't care if you KNOW there is gas in the tank, have you added a gallon or two of gasoline just to take that off the table
LOL, you'd be surprised
Open drivers door window door closed
Turn key on and listen for HUMMMM of fuel pump in the gas tank, it only runs for 2 seconds with key on
Repeat key OFF and then ON at least 4 times, listening each time, it should run each time.
Now try to start engine
If it still dosn't stay running then you will need a helper
Remove large air tube from intake manifold
Open throttle manually
Have helper crank engine while you spray gasoline or Quick start(ether) into the intake
After engine starts keep spraying in fuel to see if it stays running longer than before
If it doesn't then spark is being cut off by computer
If it does stay running then fuel is being cut off by computer
Assuming you can hear fuel pump working as it should then it could be CAM Sensor issue, I would expect a code for that
Look on the engine for a fuel pressure test port, they don't all have them, follow the fuel injector rail it should be on passenger side of engine on that metal tube(rail)
Looks like a tires air valve, because that is what it is, a schrader valve, may even still have the cap on it
Rent/get fuel pressure gauge IF you have the Test Port
Test pressure by turning key on and off
2000 Ranger should get up to 55psi fuel pressure
If pressure stays low then yes, time for new fuel pump
