2002 4.0 Edge 4x4

Thinking about getting a 2002 4.0 Edge 4x4. I've only owned 4 cyl rangers in the past. Any common problems with these I should look out for? It has 84k on the clock.

Thanks!

A problem I have noticed between the 4 cylinders and the 4.0 V6s is a sharp decrease in gas mileage between the two. You should should keep that in mind. Not sure what causes it thought. Might be the 2+ extra liters.

yes it is auto. What kind of mileage should it get?

I currently have a '96 5-speed 2.3L, ext cab, and it has gotten right abround 20mpg since the day it was new.

I will probably go look at it tomorrow. If it does have the timing chain rattle, whats involved in fixing it? Just a new chain/tensioner I'm assuming, or more?

well i looked at it and it wasnt in very good shape. I ended up finding a 2004 3.0 edge at another dealer that i liked and ended up buying it. I really wanted a 4.0 but this one had more power than i expected, and I talked them down to $6000. (They were asking $8088).
Seemed like a good deal for a clean '04 with 121k miles on it. 2wd, extended cab, power everything, great tires, and new brakes all the way around. I'll post pictures soon.

not to be an @sshat but you would have spent way less for a ranger with that motor and that many miles if you didnt buy it used dealer. watch out for the death rattle on the syncro of that 3.0 if it hasnt been replaced yet.

not around here. trust me i've been looking for over a year now. The kelley blue book value on it from a private party is $7825. Retail is $9525.

Its a heck of a lot nicer than my '96 2.3L with manual everything

I had a 94 splash with the 4.0 and 200k miles on it and i never had to fix that. Wait i never had to fix a thing on the motor. they run good if you take care of them.

That's because there wasn't a problem with the timing chain tensioners that year. It was big in the 2001-2003 years.
