01-03 are still the best looking IMO. Looks like it's getting a little boxy.

Personally, I like a boxier look on a truck, like the pre-97 Ford F-150's to the post-97's. They just looked waaaaay too ssoft for me (my grandfather has a 3 door in that ugly teal color everyone loved 8 years ago)
As for the 2006, I really don't see any worthwhile improvements. There are some trim accessories (those super stupid nissan flares) but they are that gray plastic the ford loves (something about that plasic crap just rubs me the wrong way. Black I could maybe deal with, but that gray crap doesn't match anything and makes the trucks look like toys. I even painted all of the gray crap on my old truck. Give me chrome baby!)
Give me a small v8 option, due a SIGNIFICANT redesign (whats it been, like 15 years almost since a redesign? 1993 I think) I mean the Dakota looks like crap to me, but at least they are trying! I'm a ford guy, always have been, always will be, but come-on!

Sorry for the rant. Just a long weekend and that pic didn't help!

I just noticed that the mirrors are body-colored on the "Sport" model.. FINALLY!

And I've always hated clear corners, but the new corner light design looks like something I may be interested in!

i personally think if ford isn't gonna up the game like nissan toyota and even chevy has changed, then they should dump the ranger and pull something new in. This truck has NOT changed. HIDEOUS. you cant say its redesigned cause you put a couple different emblems that belong on an f150 or cause you stole mirrors off a dodge or somethign and then painted half the truck another color.. WOOHOO go ford CHEAPA$$es!

oh yah not to mention yes as everyone has said UGLY Frontier fender flares that even nissan dumped cause they were damn ugly!....umm the lower valance is so close to my 04 and im sure the only thing interior wise that will change is two tone "sporty" color options

Take an 03 platform, offer either a solid front axle or IFS ( coil over ) , a base v6 ( sohc ) a 4 banger and a 3.9/4.6 v8... and ya have a truck that would sell quite well.

Its just a ' weak ' ( by comparrison ) drivetrain that hurts the Ranger compared to the others out there.

I don't want a Behemoth, a small truck that can do light work.

Why on earth would they? Regardless of what every other maker out there has done in recent years, hasn't the Ranger is still statistically the best selling compact pickup for something like a decade?!? I thought I read that somewhere in the marketing material. Although I hear that has recently changed. If the statistics in that link are correct, then the Ranger is falling out of it's #1 sales purch just now. Under those circumstances, I wouldn't look for a significan redesign for at least a year or two. Simple economics: why re-design it if the existing design is selling well now!

They last good year for the Ranger was 2000. Since then, sales have fallen off each year.

2000 - 330,125
2001 - 272,460 down 17.47%
2002 - 226,094 down 17.02%
2003 - 209,117 down 7.51%
2004 - 156,322 down 25.52%
YTD 2005 - 38,405 Pacing to sell 115,215 this year, down about 26.5%
Which is 214,910 trucks less than what they sold in 2000, which is down 65% over all.

Yes, but down from what? If they outsold every other make 2:1 in 2000.. and are down 60%.. that still isn't too bad!

But if we are down 60%, and the Coloradio is up just 45% from last year, then there is a problem.

Again, up 45% from what?

All I'm really trying to say is that I doubt Ford would even consider a redesign until there was a sales problem.. and up until just this year or last, there was no sales problem!

Then what would you call it. The Rangers sales have droped about 15% each year for the last 4 years, while everyone elses sales have gone up atleast 30% each year.
