2009 Ranger

Hey all, I've been thinking about trading in my 04 XLT (4x4, SC, 4.0, auto) on a 2009 Ranger. I've never had a brand new vehicle before and I'd Love to get a Ranger just they way I want it before its too late. I was looking at the ford website and would I be correct in a assuming that I cant get a Reg cab 4.0 4x4? Also, do you guys know if I can get an FX4 without fender flares? I just cant seem to find the info I need. I'm considering either a sport or an FX4 but I have a lot of questions. I like my 04 a lot but its got almost 100k on it already and I really want a 5-speed truck. Thanks for any help you can give me guys.

Uh no on the single cab 4x4 4.0

No on the fender flares are well.

FX4 is the way to go but i have heard some things about the new ones im not okay with.. such as stock ride height being lower than previous years.

04blackedge 11-05-2008 10:47 AM

No the FX4 is going to come with fender flares no matter what.

All of the t-bar trucks are lower. Yeah no single cab 4x4 4.0. You can get a 4.0 single cab XLT but not with a manual tranny. Go to your local dealer.

jaycheetwood 11-05-2008 11:00 AM

Well i hear the 07+ are lower than say my 03 fx4...

04blackedge 11-05-2008 11:02 AM

I was agreeing with you, its not just the FX4s that are lower, all 4x4 and 2wd with torsion bars are lower.

jaycheetwood 11-05-2008 11:03 AM

Oh why?

I heard the blocks arent in the rear anymore??

This is stupid on fords part.

Oh okay isnt it like 1 inch blocks instead of 2 or 2 1/2 inch blocks??

If i wanted a lowered truck i wouldve bought a gm.

04blackedge 11-05-2008 11:10 AM

The stock torsion keys have a different angle on them or something like that, causing the front to be lower. And then a smaller block in the rear.

Hmm, thats kind of stupid that they are lower. I dont off road my Ranger much but I but I deffinately dont want it to sit any lower than it does now. (Stock height). Maybe I should just stick with my 04. I think its silly the way options are some vehicles (no reg cab 4x4 4.0 for example). But I'm sure there would be very low demand for it so it would be a waste of money for Ford to build them. Still though, you'd think it wouldnt be that hard. I would just drive over to my Ford dealer but the closest one is about 80 miles away and of course the only Rangers they keep on hand are XL fleet style ones.

ns_red7 11-05-2008 11:19 AM

I'm pretty sure they dropped the height of the 08's not the 07's though. Mine rides an inch, maybe inch and a half higher than any 08's I've been close enough to that I could tell.

Yeah that does suck...

Maybe find an 05 - 06 low miles still??

I got my 03 with 68k just recently.. and mines fx4 twin stick,.

245Ranger 11-05-2008 11:45 AM

Yeah that is a good idea to try and find a nice low mile used truck. Im going to keep an eye out. In the meantime maybe I'll see what kind of a deal the closest dealer would give me. I guess always do a small body lift I supose.

jaycheetwood 11-05-2008 11:49 AM

Yeah well Fx4 and bl dont always get along.

I cant BL mine.. well i could but its a B****

04blackedge 11-05-2008 11:51 AM

Not true. There is a member here with an '08 FX4 without flares. He special ordered it that way. It can be done. A dealer will be able to answer most if not all of your questions.

On the reg cab 4x4 w/4.0L I'd ask a dealership. In 07 I just about ordered one.. and it wasn't shown on the ford web page.

I also found out during that buying experience that dealerships can sometimes custom order features for pickups. Might want to check before discounting it.
