2012 Ranger Update

Long time no talk guys, I've been away from the forums for awhile, but I'm back now and have some hopefully truthful news.

Last week I was on a cruise with the family and just so happened to stumble into this Canadian guy who worked for Ford for over 40 years. We got to talking about the Fusions and how he thinks they are the best vehicle that Ford has put out in recent years, and I then asked about the future of the Ranger.

He said from what he has heard from people within the company, the 2012 Ford Ranger will be in production late this year, and the front end will look somewhat similar to the new Explorers with the oversized grill and updated front end, but he said the overall chassis should be somewhat similar to the way its been the last 15 years and it will be a gradual year by year change with designs, kind of similar to the 2002-2010 Explorers and how they changed but not by much.

I just hope this Canadian was telling the truth and not talking through his teeth.

Hmmm, richest nation in the world per household and they wanna sell everywhere but here. Good idea Ford!

"Some speculate that the cannibalizing of F-150 sales would cost Ford more than what they will lose by simply not offering a smaller pickup.

We think that Ford may want to reconsider, especially when market research shows that many customers start with entry-level vehicles and eventually progress to larger offerings from the same automaker." -Leftnews.com

If they offered a diesel motor that gets good gas mileage and more power they would sell more, You can't compete and expect to sell more when you never make changes for the better. Instead of trying something new for the US market they just give up and throw it away.

Exactly. Like I said in another thread, I hope to god that Colorado and Tacoma sales sky rocket in 2012 and maybe it will make Ford rethink the decision.

That's perfect logic. You (one person) think they look gay and nobody drives Toyota (except all the people that bought them and made Toyota the largest manufacturer of cars in the world) so obviously on your personal opinion they will never sell.

Well in MY OPINION, as a Ranger owner and one who will probably be truck shopping in the next 5 years, I will not be looking at a full size Ford truck as a replacement, I will be looking at the midsize trucks that are on the market. Quite frankly I would buy a V8 Colorado with the off road package in a heart beat if I had them money.

Even though we (supposedly) won't be getting it, they sure like to strut it out enough. This was just published a bit ago.

It really is a shame. The ranger is soaring in popularity, Has anyone priced out a used one lately. I was shocked by what my buddy just paid for an 04 and he looked for a month. I hope they have something in the wings.

Colorado's are nice trucks in my opinion. Just cause we are on a Ranger forum doesn't mean you can't appreciate or like other vehicles.

the word on the internet is!!!!

chrysler will be re-entering the small pick-up market , and will be offering the the cummins 4bt as a optional powerplant .

they admitted that when they upsized the dakota , the sales went way down

people did not want a large bore v6 or a v8 engine , they wanted a economical 4 cylinder engine

and quite a few demanded a 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine.

but as i say to everyone who asks me about that : i say :

i will believe that when i actually see the vehicle they say they will make

If that's what they're gonna turn the Ranger into, then they can keep it. I wouldn't ever want one.

Thank you.

I want one just like that but either orange with plastic flares or black with color matched flares.

I was thinking. Ford keeps saying that the reason the Ranger isn't coming is because it is 90% the size of the F150, with nearly the same payload and towing. Well, with the new CAFE regulations coming, and a refresh for the F150 due in a few years, I think Ford is planning on using the new Ranger as the base for the next gen F150.

Wouldn't mind a Colorado/Canyon with the 5.3 V8 option.

Yeah, if that is that new Ranger, I don't need it. There is no reason that every compact pickup needs to become a midsized truck.

We will soon be left with no true compact pickups in the US. DUMB, At least it should boost the re-sale value of my truck, since there will be no alternative.

I almost bought that truck (orange plastic flares in a 2dr), but didn't want to get into a monthly payment so i opted for my ranger.
