This is long overdue. I own two; 2004 2X4 Reg Cab 3.0 V6 and 2004 4X4 4Dr Extended Cab 4.0 V6.

NO V6??????? What the heck ford! Im am extremely disappointed! I've heard the only option is 2.3 i4 ecoboost and 10spd auto. No stick shift either. WOW. Sigh...... why ford why......

Nope - I refuse to get a truck with a smaller bed than my 6' stepside.

No V6, No manual, No reg cab! 3 strikes, your out. What are they doing, seriously. One engine option too. They won't be able to even compete, others offer diesel or V6. Eco boost ain't no fix all, especially a I4 one.

In the literature Ford states there will be a 6 foot bed available only in the crew cab version. As for the diesel, that is coming in subsequent iterations. Just like the the Chevy Colorado/Canyon, the diesel debuted later. it would seem Ford is putting much of it's effort towards the Halo version of the Ranger, the Ranger Raptor. Chevy Colorado's version of the Raptor has been a big hit, even though it lacks many of the attributes that makes a Raptor style truck a Raptor. The best thing about this, it is finally going to happen!
With this movement, there will be more of the current Ranger's coming available at even more affordable pricing. Just like the cycling of new models of Super Dutys. Those that don't wish to buy a new truck or the funds, the new upgrades create a stronger used truck market. Me? I will be looking for a 3rd Ranger. b |
6ft bed is on the Super Cab. The crew cab gets a 5ft bed.

ford openly stated years ago they had no intent of offering a manual stateside. Autos are more efficient, easier to drive, and a majority of the American population doesn't care.

There is a 1.6L Ecoboost that makes 178 hp and then there is the 2.0L Ecoboost that made 252hp but it was dumped after 4 years for the 2.3L Ecoboost.
The EB is a good idea if you are cruising down the highway at 60 to 65 mph with no load in the bed. For the F150 EB gets slightly better than the 5.0 in city driving and will drop mileage significantly if towing or hauling a load. A turbo diesel is the best answer. |

Maybe the Millenniums will like it and I am thinking that is who Ford has built it for. If I wanted to drive a Car/Pickup, I would look at the Honda's ! Ford is after money, money, money; and don't get me wrong, I understand the need for money to stay in business but what they have done in my case is, drove me away from Ford... where's the money in that ! Ford now has an F150 with a cost out of the range of most everyday people, and a Mini Truck that looks like a Car that also isn't inexpensive, where is the logic in it ! Just my opinion and we know everyone has one... Ford Screwed up for the older of the Ranger Owners. Ltr |
I'm not too sure what you have seen but the bed is the same size on the new Ranger as on the older ones. The 6' bed is standard.
And I am an "older Ranger owner" and the new one is great. It's larger, it has a greater towing capacity and the turbo engine gives it far better performance than the older Rangers had. |
Just picked up one. Was driving a manual 2000 S10 2wd 4 cyl.
Yes, the auto only sucks, but at least you CAN manual shift this via pushbuttons.. Bed is bigger than the S10. Carrying capacity is 25% bigger than S10. Towing capacity is better than S10. Yes it is a 4cyl, but it is a lot more powerful than the S10 4cyl, and is shows in acceleration.... Did I want a manual? yes I did. I tried to find a Frontier with one, and I tried to find a Colorado with one. Both have them listed as "available". Nobody could find a manual version of either brand, and it ended up not mattering because both of those were not very good, and were rejected on general grounds anyway. The manual tranny would not have saved them, even though I do not like automatics in general. (Did not look at Tacoma or Ridgeline, they seem to be priced higher) Both Frontier and Colorado had less load carrying, one was only 900 lb! Both had anemic towing. And when you punched it, both of them sent the engine up to redline, screaming in a low gear. Plus neither drove well, and the Frontier had crappy visibility , fat doorposts, etc. They also were at least fractionally worse mileage. I like the Ranger better so far. That said, as far as I can determine the collision alert system that is listed for the vehicle on the sticker, does not seem to work at all. Even the sensor position seems to be empty, although all the setup screens work, and the red LED display is present. And all sorts of odd things seem to re-start the engine after it has stopped (normally) at a light, etc. Opening the passenger door restarted the engine (go figure). Turning on the ventilation fan restarted it (REALLY go figure). Putting the tranny in park restarted it (that almost makes sense). I would have thought that just the release of the brake would have restarted the engine, nothing else. So this particular one has some potential issues, but the general driveability seems better than the similar price competition |
