93 Ranger Can't Decide..

I Bought a 93 Splash Ranger and was told that the head gaskets were blown, after having the heads checked we found one head was cracked. I don't know if I should buy a new head, which I can get for $300, or just buy a whole engine all together. I was told the engine had just clocked 100,000 but after really looking at it seems like 200,000 I don't know if its worth the new head or just a new engine all together. What do you all think?

personally i would swap out the motor with a 5.0 from an explorer. if it looks that bad then it probably is and if your going to swap out the motor you should make it worth it and put in a bigger engine cuz your only gonna do it once.

you should be able to find that motor for the same price as whatever you have now so that shouldnt be a problem and as for finding one try calling local junkyards or craigslist. i have found a few 5.0 explorers that had blown trannys or heavy rearend damage on caigslist and the people were practically giving them away. there should be quite a few build threads on here where people did this swap. read up on it and give it some thought cuz its not worth going though the same process and doing the same work for a smaller engine you might as well go for the gold. oh yeah and while your at it take the rear axle and put that on your truck as well.

Yes for a 93 New England truck it is in amazing shape. there is no body rot at all only surface rust which I plan to wire wheel off then undercoat the bottom to keep it that way. I really am torn on this if i can find a cheap complete donor car I will probably put the 302 in it. Also about how much were those banged up explorers going for?
