differences in ford ranger years??

K so I need to buy a truck, its all come down to the ford ranger or a Toyota pickup or 1st gen Tacoma.. right now I'm leaning towards the rangers but I wanna know what years they did what with? What is good and what is bad and why?
All I know I want for sure with whatever I get is 4x4, ext cab, manual tranny, manual transfer case.. I'm stuck there

I was thinking 95-97 for the ttb because I will do some decent off road in this, but it will also be a daily driver

I saw a lot of people say the 03, but I haven't seen anything About why the 03 is so good, other then looks, they say level 2, whats that? Looks isn't the selling factor for me, I want something reliable that I can beat up and that has alot of aftermarket support truck wise and engine wise

The sohc 4.0 says it produces more power but is less reliable then the ohv 4.0, is that true? Is there potential to make the ohv a beast?

Just looking for advice and differences, thanks guys

What's your price range, that's also a good place to start, These vehicles vary quite a bit in price

I'd prefer to keep it around 4, but I can go up to around 6

When you go 01+ you get much more limited in your lift kit choices.

A Tacoma will be much more reliable, but the body won't hold up

I'm not planin on a huge lift, maybe Luke 2-4 inches with probably 31 or 33 inch tires, ya that was one of the reasons I don't like the Tacoma, but the pickup does have a boxed frame, its just got an iffy engine with no aftermarket support (engine wise) what about any of the rangers between, the 98-02 would I be better off sticking with a pushrod engine, and for some offroading the ttb would be a little better right?
