ABS light is on... IDK where to start looking

My ABS light has been on for a month. I mainly use my motorcycle during the warmer months, so I rarely drive my Ranger.

Where should I start looking for the culprit? Normally I would take it to a shop, but money is tight :(. I'm guessing it's not a mechanical issue since there's a separate "Brake" dash light from what I remember. If it's not mechanical, that's where IDK what to look for...

First thing is to pull the codes and see what you got.

Will a regular OBDII code reader see the ABS code? I was under the impression those only get the CEL codes.

Ok... update:

Sounds like my passenger hub is about to die. I can hear grinding coming from that side once in a while.

My driver side hub made the same noise a few years back.

Could this cause the ABS light to turn on?

Since no one really helped, I'll post the fix just in case someone else stumbles upon the same problem in the future...

I replaced the hub (1 week ago, the wheel almost broke away from the truck. Had to get it towed back home... I had already ordered the hub, but the truck decided to break down before the part came in). Took 2 hours to replace (only because the 15mm socket I grabbed was cracked and wasn't doing the job. I spend a good 1/2 hour trying to find another 15mm socket.).

Replacing the hub fixed the ABS light as well.

Just saw this...

...my advice to find what the code was would have been to buy a Bluetooth or USB OBDII scanner and then use ForScan (google for it) and have it pull your codes.

Unlike a lot of softwares out there, ForScan can actually pull the ABS codes, it's a great piece of software.

Glad you found your issue...

Chuck

Thanks for the tip on the app.... I have OBD DROIDSCAN and that one doesn't do ABS codes, so I didn't realize there were ABS codes like the CEL.

Sorry, haven't been one here in a week...
Do you hear any "grinding" noises when you turn the wheel while driving? I onlt heard grinding when I was making a turn. That's how I knew it was the hub.

My driver side wheel bearing is bad, and has been making a grinding sound for about a month(don't worry, I have the new parts, I'm fixing everything this Sunday), and just recently the ABS light came on. I'm replacing the hub assemblies, tie rods, upper/lower ball joints, and control arms n both sides of my truck, so if that doesn't fix the light, I'm not sure what will.
