XLT 4x4 vs. XLT 4x4 Off Road???

Hey.

So what exactly are the differences between the XLT 4x4s, and the XLT 4x4 Off Roads???? I am not talking about FX4 Off Road versus Fx4 Level 2. My truck had regular 4x4 decals on it when i got it. I've just always been curious. I'm talking 02 and older i think.

Im not sure about this, but I think the off road versions had skid plates underneath for better protection while offroading.

Ahh beat me to it lol.

the offroad has a 4:10 limited slip rearend the clutch type .... it also has skidplates the rest of the stuff is a bunch of crap like power windows cruz control etc .....possibly hasbetter shocks but still garbage compared to bilsteins. Possibly increased springs rates too...

what i did was i ordered an xlt 4x4 then added all the stuff I wanted for performance... LS 4:10, skid plates, payload package B for stiffer springs cuz i offroad with ALOT of weight in the bed . If you plan to 4x4 with an empty bed don't get the stiffer springs. this is the most cost effective way if you don't want all the power stuff etc .my trucks performance options are identical to the offroad.. cruz control is the only luxury i needed .if you get a sliding window you get tinted windows along with it so thats als good . go to the ford website and build your truck you can see all this stuff on there .

only fx4 level 2 gets a front skid as far as i know . The offroad gets mid and aft or you can order mid and aft on xlt 4x4 . no front skid available on xlt .

the person that sold it to me thought it was the skids and tow hooks.

my tow hooks are a ton beefier than most of the tow hooks i've seen.

i never had the front skid plate.. but if i did it would have been ripped off a while ago.

well mine is a sport 4x4 and it came with everything you guys have said.
limited slip 4.10 gears, all skids except the front, big beefy front tow hooks, and the plastic peace under the radiator( which I now have huge washers and tire wraps holding up).

I have a 98 offroad and the only skid plates mine has is on the t-bar housing and under the gas tank. My truck only has a 3.73 rearend and no ls to the best of my knowlage. The shocks were upgraded on the offroad editions. BTW what is the plastic thing on the bottom of the radiator for?
