AC issue

AC problem
95, 4cyl, 2 wheel.
AC has plenty of 314A (in green).
Blower works better for heat than cold ??
Fir AC very little cold air comes out. Seems to be a little better on max also
Seems in long runs /highway I get more cold air.
The 95 does not have the cabin filter but a mesh I am reading is built in and does not need changing ??

Any thoughts, leads ?

Thanks !

Heat will always be better in a vehicle than AC
Coolant is 180-200degF, in heater core
AC, at coldest, is 38degF, can't go to close to or below 32degF or it will freeze up

AC has two settings, on or off, thats all there is

TEMP in the cab is controlled by a "Blend Door", it is a door/flap on the Heater core
On COLD the flap closes and covers the heater core so No Air from the fan goes thru the core
On HOT the flap opens and ALL air is passed thru the heater core
And in between is the TEMP adjustment, adding more or using less HEAT from the core
So TEMP is strictly HEAT based
AC is on or off, no temp control

In 1995 and up Rangers the Blend Door is electric, and it had/has issues, Google: Ford ranger blend door actuator
If Blend door is not closing all the way then AC's 38degF will be fighting heater's 180degF, heater always wins that battle, lol

Correct, there is no cabin filter on 1983-2011 Rangers, fresh air vent is under the cowl on passenger side, hard to even see it, there is no access to it

MAX AC setting does two things
It closes the Fresh Air vent and pulls in air from the cab, so AC is cooling already cooled air, vs hotter air outside
If working it also activates the Heater Core by-pass valve in the engine bay, a valve on the heater hoses closes and no HOT coolant circulates into the cab's heater core, so lowers radiated heat in the cab's heater box
As said, AC is on or off, there is no "high/low" for AC, on or off that's it

AC

Thank you for all the information, it helps understand the full process.
Seems I forgot to mention that I get cold air only on the top of the dash (defrost vents) nothing comes out in the vents in the front facing the seat.
In looking up I figure it's the actuator and or door that causes this.
I çhecked the vacuum hoses from black ball under air filter to cabin, they are good and since my air issue is based on electric as you mentioned I don't think this is a problem.
I do not hear any noises, clicking....etc. in any mode or action on the control panel .
Thank you again for this help !!!
• Fan use to blow on all setting but now low setting barely blows but works good on high .

Blower(fan) uses a Resistor Block for lower speeds, HIGH bypasses this resistor block
If high works but other speeds do not then the resistor block is bad, easy to change it out

Resistor Block is located in engine bay near the Blower motor on the Heater box, has 4 wire connector and two screws that hold it in place
The "resistor coils" are inside the heater box, images here: https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...dgybQ&usqp=CAU
All you see on the outside is the connector
Unplug it, unscrew it and pull it out
Put in the new one and fasten it, plug it in and you will have all the speeds back

Defrost is the default Vent position, if no vacuum is present
If your only vent selection is Defrost then you have no vacuum in the cab to operate the Vents
Most common issue when that happens is the black line from Reservoir ball is cracked/broken, or Reservoir ball is cracked/broken, OR its line to engine vacuum is unhooked
This vacuum line comes in to the cab under glove box far side near the kick panel, there will be two lines, white and black, black one is the IN from the reservoir to operate the Vents
White is vacuum OUT to heater bypass in engine bay

Only the TEMP control is electric, 1995 and up
