Icon6 2.3 to 3.0

I am thinkin of upgrading to a 3.0. Here are the difference's..

My 05 2.3L.

Base line XL, no A/C, Cruise. Standard Cab.

You know.. the basic ole work truck.

The 06 3.0L.

A/C, Cruise, Super Cab.

It doesn't have power windows or mirror's, but im alright with that.

In the dollar for dollar game, I am paying 210 for the 2.3, and trading the 2.3 in, i would still owe 1k on it.

With that said, my new payment for the 3.0 would be 298. $88 more than i am paying now.

It seems like a good deal to me. Truck is clean, paint, inside. I work at the dealer.

Any sugestions from my fellow rangers?? Thanks!!

dont waste money or time on a 3.0L i loved mine but when i went to a 4.0L i would never buy a 3.0... the 2.3 is a great engine and is almost next to the 3.0L in power output.

I'vd had both, and both were fine trucks. You're moving up a year and getting an extended cab, which I'm certain you'll find more usable. The 3.0 seems a little more 'natural' in the ext. cab and it's still reasonable on mpg though not as good as your 2.3. Is it worth $90 more a month? Hey,, a man and his truck. It's an affair of the heart. You gotta make the call.

Now a word from an old man. Don't think of things in terms of monthly payments. Do ALL the math. Higher monthly payment - for how long? Plan 15 -20% more per month on fuel. Will insurance go up because of increased value of new truck? Now make an educated decision. You'll do the right thing. Hope it works whichever way you determine.

i have also had both... a tired 92 2.3 with 350k and i upgraded in 02 to a brand new 3.0... i was very impressed with the extra power but my only regret is that i didn't get the extended cab... that alone would be worth the extra money imho

the 06 would be all around better imo, but its up to you to decide if its worth the extra 88 a month, that can go towards a lot of other nice things

all that extra 88 a month is going to is the bigger gas bill he will have due to having the low powered 3.0 that gets the gas milage of a v8.

I have the exact trucks you have/want

I have a 98 3.0 ext cab auto and a 07 2.3 5pd single cab.

The 3.0 auto in a ext cab is a dog and the milage sucks and honestly if your going to buy a new truck and want an ext cab get a 4.0, the 3.0 has the hp of a 2.3 and the gas milage of a 4.0.

Honestly with gas prices the way they are today I would stick with what you have or find a newer 2.3 ext cab auto, There is an 08 on the lot by my with a 2.3/auto/ext cab. The 2.3 is damn fun to drive with the manual behind it though.

Just kidding yeah it has decent power stock form but if your planning on lifting or going to bigger tires I would steer away from it lol.

when i was driving my 92 3.0 it was fun maybe because i never drove it for speed and the 4.56s with the 32s was sick.

very nice! love the sport package, i had a 2003 3.0 auto extended cab edge and it was plenty of power, i mean come on its a truck. nice upgrade, im paying 295 mo. for my new ranger, my last truck was a 4cyl. 5 speed colorado and was 250 mo. well worth the upgrade. im getting 17 mpg city with my 4.0 4x4 ranger the colorado only got 19.
