I don't know of any heavy duty replacement available. As for finding a new one, eBay is probably your best bet.

Dorman sells a steel replacement base kit that should be stronger than the Ford plastic piece.
Dorman part number 924-834 on eBay, Amazon, etc. Figure about $40~60 shipped.

Even with the kit, probably a good idea not to lean too heavily on the cantilevered arm rest.

Bob, does Dorman make a metal plate for the old Explorer long console? I have a pretty decent plastic one, but it does have a few cracks in it, so I know it will be a problem eventually.

The Gen2 Explorers used the Ranger style pictured above and also a full length console that went all the way to the dash.

If you have the full length style, take a look at Dorman 924-883. Looks like it might be plastic. I haven't seen this item in person but I'm guessing it would fit.

That is indeed the one I have. My full length console is out of a 2000 Explorer (but in my 2003 Edge). Based on the picture, it is made of plastic, but still good to know they are available new. I found a decent base at the Pull-A-Part and recovered mine with a kit off of eBay. While I had it apart, I reinforced the parts (and cracks) with two-part epoxy. It is holding up well, but then I am not hard on my stuff either. Bob, thanks for the part number, my Google search didn't turn up anything.

Not trying to hijack the thread - I have a 2003 FX4 Level II and am wondering the same thing...I'm assuming the '03 Level II has the same arm rest as an '07 FX4 non-Level II?

If so, Mr. rwenzing, you're saying any 1995 - 2001 Ford Explorer would have this armrest? Also, would that include all Ranger FX4 (Level II or otherwise)?

Thanks for any info here, wandering the auto yard around here is fun, but, somewhat dangerous...

That steel plate work out really well !
I did the change a while back and solved my downward slant of the arm rest and I can lean on it SOME.

Some Explorers have a console/armrest that is similar to the Level II type but there is another style of Explorer center console that is clearly different. Both Explorer consoles come in multiple colors.

Beware of junkyard parts because there is a good chance that any factory armrest like yours could already be broken. It doesn't take much force to break it.

The Dorman number I posted above is for a steel aftermarket replacement for the plastic base in your armrest. This kit should fit any year Level II (or other Ranger equipped with the same console).

Thanks man! I think what I'm going to do is clean my console up, sans armrest with cracked armrest bracket, and reinstall it with a pillow on top. My fam never knows what to get me for Christmas, I'll have them get a new OEM armrest and the Dorman metal bracket, and just put them on once I get them. Ahhh...finally a Christmas I get things that I can use and are practical... :D

Thanks!
