Air Snorkels

You hood disappeared, most likely, because of the bow wave. The water BROKE over my windshield (coming up the hood) when I went through 37" deep. In such a case, the "seas are parting", lol and if you don't get stuck, you're cool.
Those of us who do end up sitting in it, usually do because we find our 35" tires in the 39" to 44" deep RUTS dug by the "big boys", lol!

your right heck what was i thinkin.
i guess i didnt know u went with me on that trip.
when the truck in front of me his 40inch tires disapear it usually means its deep enough that a stock ford rangers hood will disapear whether there is a wave or not but then agian it was prolly a wave.

Man, my friend had a new Mazda 6 with a K&N filter and it sucked up a whole lotta water from just hitting a puddle in a parking lot. they pulled the heads off and turned the crankshaft and water started gushing out.

I was at a hardware store playing around today and figured out how you could run a stock airbox and snorkel, cuase it's been bothering me lately for some stupid reason...
A butterfly valve!!
You could put it on the outside of the airbox to close off the stock tubing and close it when you want to use the snorkel only... Plus, the snorkel will let in a little extra air when not in use.

Re:
I was thinking along the same lines. I wanted to set up a snorkel like the one pictured @oramagazine.com without the stupid looking base or platform it's on. The intake I've had my eye on allows enough room between the cone filter assembly and the MAF. I just need to figure out a way to install a valve. Once I found something that'd work it'd be a snap. But alas I need to find something first. Any ideas?
