Cotton vs Terry towels

Every time I pick up any kind of wax or polish or something, it always say use a 100% cotton terry towel. WTF is terry ? I use a 100% cotton towel like an old bath towel or T-shirt does it really matter ?

At any store, even walmart, they sell Terry Towels, i actually just bought a 12 pack for 5 bucks or something. They are like bath towels, a shirt would work well too, make sure they're pretty clean though, as no rocks or dirt on them to scratch, i'm sure you're aware of that.

Terrycloth:

Your old bath towel is probably terrycloth anyhow. But yeah, an old t-shirt will work well too. That's what I use.. I like to use a woven cloth (like an old t-shirt) to apply the wax and then a more textured terrycloth rag to remove it.

Yeah I have seen them in wal-mart, and I mentioned one time around my mom that I was going to buy some, next thing I know my moms gives me a BIG bag of old bath towels, so I don't see any point in buying them, they are clean, she even washed them before she gave them to me.

I just didn't know if there was a difference or if what i was using was ok or not. I was waxing my wheels yesterday. I used the included aplicater to apply it and a mother powerball to remove it, then I wiped it with one of my old bath towels.

I could use a few, either that or wash the ones I have been using.

i use these terrycloth type towels that autozone/walmart have in the auto section, they come in like a 5 or 6 pack in like blue, yellow and green. i love them they hold so much wax and they make the wax come off so well.

Old plain t-shirts do the job for me. Especially the 100% cotton Hanes or FOTL pocket tees. When you run out of old t's just go to your local discount store and you could by a pack of irregulars for a few bucks. Value City always has tons of them.

I would never use an old T shirt unless the truck is totally totally clean, becuase if there is a spec of dirt with a t shirt there is nowhere for the dirt to go really, the terry towels (most are cotton) that basically just means they have the naps like in the pic above

Zabeard are you sure thoose are terry towels, and not microfiber towels you are reffering too?

"Terry" is the type of texture/looping of the cotton...not what it is made from.

If you want to dry your vehicle after washing, try a waffle weave towel. Microfiber is best to use when waxing, etc.

Micro fiber towels are the best,.Why, because they take off all the dry wax with ease and more important don't leave swirl marks.

if you want the best job make sure you dont wash your waxing towels with fabric softener. Liquid or dryer towels. It can cause scratches.
