2000 Ranger xlt 4x4 extended cab. Problem I am having is the door ajar light and tone come on intermittently no matter how tight the doors are closed. Any help will be appreciated even if it is disconnecting the chime somehow. Thanks.....Paul

Try upping the switch and bypassing it. That should shut it up unless there is a short in the wires somewhere

Spray some silicon in the door latches. Common problem with these Rangers.

Try spraying some WD-40 in the door latch. Mine did this and many others on here have had this happen. That might fix it. Or, I could be way off and it could have a short in it.

You dont want WD-40 in any latch or metal to metal lubricant contact - what you need is something like royal purples Synthetic Metal to Metal Lubrication, or some white silicone spray - spray it on the door latch area, and on the locking latch area and then work it in with a few slams and opens.. should fix the problem!

+1 on the no WD-40 in the door latch. It's a penetrating liquid, not a lubricant. Huge difference! I had the same issue with my 02, just a sticky latch.

When I had the problem I went to the Ford dealership and they sprayed WD-40 in the latch. Never a problem again

The problem with WD40 - while it initially lubricates well, it draws dust and dirt like no tomorrow, you will end up with a ton of gunk crap - its much better to just hit the local Nappa and pick up a small can of proper lubricant for it, You'll notice the difference right away =)

wd-40 works well as a lubricant, and especially well if something is stuck due to rust or gummed up oil (like previously sprayed wd-40) as previously stated, it does attract dust and dirt...

not entirely sure if the latch is the same as on my 07, which contains everything all in 1, actuator, door latch, and door sensor, if it is, and it's full of grime, a good coat of wd40, would help, followed by some type of de-greaser, that will dry the residue left from the wd-40, which then should be left to dry, and after that, the silicone grease or something along those lines...

no point in lubing up dirt and dust
