Hi all. Turned the key in my 2010 Ranger and nothing happens. I noticed when I turned key back to off, the antitheft light in bottom left of dash cluster would flash 5 times. I t hasn't done this before. I tried both keys that have the chip, neither worked. It starts again right now , but that light still flashes 5 times after shutting off. Any thoughts?

Check battery voltage before starting, after battery has been sitting for at least 4 hours, overnight is better

12.8v is a new battery
12.5v is a 3 year old battery
12.3v is a 5/6 year old battery and time to watch for battery sales

12.2v or under is a bad battery, change in now

 

That means it's working correctly.
