Any Reason Not to Buy?

One of my local dealers just received a 2007 Ranger FX4-Level II in Vista Blue. It has all the options I'd want in a new truck. With the special Internet pricing along with the $2500 instant cash-back, I'm having difficulties not running down to the dealing to check it out. I'm not sure if I'd trade my 2001 Ranger XLT Off-Road in or not. It would all depend on what they're willing to give me as a trade.

What do you think? Any reason not to buy?

New Ranger coming out in a while. I'd totally wait for it. 01 is still pretty new.

Interesting. That's the 1st I've heard that. I'll have to do some more research. Thanks for the heads-up.

Its all what you want, 2010 the new ranger should be here, by then your truck will be 9 years old, I don't know how much you drive and if they use salt where you live (shortens vehicle body life). So its up to you, it would be a really nice truck, if you want it, just get it. Myself, I will wait and see what the future brings for our little rangers....

Ya, I'd wait. I already feel guilty about buying my 06 knowing that a whole new truck will be here soon.

Well it wont be soon, I mean, if your truck is an 06, it will be 4 years old by the time the new one comes out....

If there is nothing wrong with your 01, I'd hold off on getting the 07 as not much has changed between the years... then again I am speaking from the point of a man with too many bills to pay, I don't know about your situation.

I didn't realize the new Ranger was planned for 2010. That seems like a long time away, so I won't let that factor into my decision too much.

I say it depends on how much you get it for and what they are willing to give you for your 01. Because you dont need a new truck, it is a great time to buy because you can set a price and stick to it. When I saw my 03 on the lot, I told the salesman my price and I didnt want to go a penny over. He kept on coming back with different offers, I said I was going to walk, and then he stopped the bullcrap and I got it for what I wanted ($2500 off what they were selling it for on a used truck).

Go in there, play hardball, and get a great price. With gas prices and Ford not doing so great, the dealers are really looking for sales.

The level to will have bigger tires that your current truck. I say if you have the money then do it. Unless you really want to wait 3 more years. The new ranger could suck but it also could be a diesel.

If money really isn't too much of a problem you could always buy this truck then trade it in for the one in 2010.

Also would you really want to put a "cowl snorkel" in the new truck. I know you said you wanted to do that this summer. I haven't forgotten I am just trying to figure out when I could do it. I want to finish installing my new axles first.

Well the the FX level IIs are pretty nice. If I were in your shoes id hold off on getting the 07, and wait and see what the new ranger is like.

Also, look at it this way, if you dont like the way the new ranger looks in 2010 then you can probably buy a 07 FX level II for wayyy cheaper. It may have some mileage on it, but if you search for a really good deal maybe you can find one with really low miles.

Hope that helps.

Well, I went to look at it a couple hours ago. I came home in my trusty '01 XLT Off-Road. To be honest, there were only a couple things I liked about the truck. I liked the fact that it had larger tires (31's) and looked higher off the ground. While I liked the fact the bed was larger due to the fleetside style, I really didn't like the overall looks. I've come to the conclusion that I really like my stepside. The Vista Blue color I didn't care for at all and I didn't like the blend of interior color between the ebony interior and trims colors of the dashboard. I didn't care for the instrument cluster or the front grill either. Call me nuts, but I really do prefer the honey-comb grill. Oh well, I just look at it as saving some money. Now that I know I'm keeping mine for a bit, I got to get it into the shop to see what the heck is wrong with the airconditioner.

personally i think the 01-03 is the best ranger built... seems to have the least problems and looks the best (the gen II is a close second) so i would keep your truck which it looks like you are gonna do anyway... fix it up and lift it

I was going to say, before I read about you not liking the 07, trade the 01, keep the 07 till the new one comes out, and trade it. It'd have more value on a trade in than the 01 and would be ( depending on how fast it was paid off) that much more off the price of the new one. my 2 cents worth.

However, if I had to choose between my 02 and an 07, I'd take my 02 still. I have a love for the 01-03 body style and have since 01.

Yeah 01-03 is definitely the best looking ranger. I wish I bought one from those years but didn't have the money when I bought my truck. Honey comb grill definitely looks the best. I have been trying to figure out how I could add one to my truck for cheap but I don't think it is possible.

Well, my curiosity wasn't going to be satisfied until I looked at this Level-II more closely, so Connie and I test drove it Friday. It rode really nicely and seemed to have a extra 1-2 inches of lift compared to my current rig. I'm figuring that due to fatigue in my springs and shackles. At any rate, the '07 Level-II road nicely and seemed solid, however there was several items that I could just not accept in this truck.

- it had the rubber floor, no carpet. I guess this was more of a "strange" feeling than it was a problem.

- the radio sucked. It was a CD6/MP3 unit, but the sound was terrible. The louder it cracked, the more distorted is sounded. My Mach3-single CD/MP3 unit is much nicer.

- the fog light switch has gone. Now, the fogs are controlled by the headlight switch and you can't run fogs without the headlights being on. I prefer my current ability to run with parking lights and fogs, without needed the headlights on.

- this particular rig didn't have a running board, bug deflector or window vents. I currently have them on my rig and like them allot. Sure, I could purchase all these as accessories and install them, but why should I on a new truck.

- after looking at the truck, I've confirmed that I prefer the stepside/flareside (that's what I have now) over the fleetside (this Level-II was a fleetside). I've always like the looks of my '01 XLT Off-Road with stepside, but after seeing the Level-II, I know for sure that I could not own the fleetside.

- although the "Ranger" silk-screening at the top of the windshield behind the rear-view mirror looks pretty cool, that right where I currently mount my Valentine V1 radar detector. In the '07, I would not be able to do that, since the suction cups don't like sticking to a porous surface.

- the trim color didn't do much for me either. I like my current black trim on tan interior and this grayish trim on black interior didn't do it for me.

- the straight down bar-grill with matching color to the exterior didn't thrill me either. I'm in a minority, but I really like the honey-comb grill the best of all the Rangers I've ever seen.

I'm sure there are a few more little things that I didn't care for, but I'm glad we went a 2nd time to really look and drive this '07 FX4 Level-II. It's a great truck and if I had never owned a Ranger before, I would have been all over this rig.

If there's nothing wrong with your 01 and you've got it paid off, there's not a whole lot of sense to buy a new truck... they haven't changed THAT much over the years!

So true I've found out. Not only have I found that out, but the slight changes that were made really don't suit my needs.

The dealer still has this truck on the lot. Ford is offering a $2007 incentive, along with another $500 incentive bonus, plus I just got a message from the Dealer that they'd provide another $100 bonus to me for inquiring about the truck on-line. The brings this rig down to just shy of $25k. It's pretty tempting.

thats all they are offering for incentives? When I bought my 07 a month ago I got a 2500 rebate on it or some special interest rate I took the rebate as it ended up cheaper route.

I still cant see paying 25k for a ranger even if it is a level 2

youll love the vista blue though I love the color on my 07
