I'm going to be offroading a lot come summer (hopefully). I got stuck before because there's just no weight on the rear and the stupid rear end, once one wheel is stuck and spinning theres no hope for the other wheel. What kind of differential is that?

If you are going to get tires bigger then 33's, you will go threw ball joints and tie rod ends like mad. The stock front end on the ranger is not made to take that much more weight. I suggest going to a scrap yard and getting a Explorer front end and swapping it in. This way you can run 35's with no worry's. The only difference between the rear ends in the rangers and the explorers is that the Ranger has drum breaks and the Explorer has disc. Also you might want to look at getting a truck with 4x4. It will make your off road adventures much more fun.

I will have some buddies with jeeps so no problems with getting stuck. I'm just looking to trail ride, no extreme mudding. Ya know like just drive the dirt roads of the pine barrens.

I offroad alot in my 2wd. I never use sandbags or anything else in the bed. I wouldnt try offroading with out atleast l/s and a good set of mud terrians. Then use your head when offroading and bring along a tow strap and a 4x4 and have fun.
Stone I also destroyed a 7.5, sorry excuse for a rear end.

2wd and mud don't mix well.........Well they don't!
I would suggest you buy a copy of offroading for dummies..........Couldn't hurt!
Then get a locker and get it installed...That's kinda important.........I mean he is one wheel drive!
Then get some 35"+ TSL'S or Boggers........Should have gone 38's or better His bed doesn't match the rest the truck anyway so he saves some money on a paint job and gets some mud tires!
Don't forget a winch and an anchor.........I guess a boat anchor would work. You need to pull yourself out when other are to busy busting your *****!
Other than that I wuz jest trying ta B helpfull

Okay, but seriously. the most I'll be doing is dirt road trails, nothing fancy. I don't need anything extreme, most of the dirt roads are fairly packed down except for the morons who dug ditches in the roads to ruin it for people who just want to enjoy the pine barrens and not rip it up.

I will be the first one to say it.
Search, there are ALOT of people who wheel here with 2wd.
What size motor do you have in it?
We need some specs.
Your best bet is to find an 4.10 geared, 28 spline 8.8 OPEN rear axel from a ranger with a 4.0 in it. I say open, because it is the easiest way to throw a locker in the rear.
It is literally bolt in and go.
Now that you have some strength in the rear end, get some 31's, or do a body lift and get some 33's. Mud tires for sure.
Get a tow strap, and recovery points front and rear if you do not already have them. Make sure it is a "Tug" strap, or Recovery strap, not chain, never use chain to ****** somone, or yourself out of a hole.
Now go have some fun, and don't blame me once you get the itch.
