anyone ever remove the console lid before? *edit: now with how to pics*
 

im talking about the one between the 60/40 seats. i want to reupholster mine 2 a black color, currently tan. it's also pretty dirty and ive tried cleaning it with not much luck. how do you take it off?

i think there are screws on the inside of the lid

i see the screws (in red) you are talking about, but i cant get to them. the plastic inside (circled in green) is in the way, and dont see how it comes off. i dont want to break it by pulling it.

ha I didn't know the older consoles opened that way.

Are there screws on the bottom of the console holding the plastic insert in? If so take them out and see if you can get to the lid that way.

thats what i kinda thought, so i pried on the felt lining, only to have it rip... gues i could try again.

so i finished the little project, and took pics along the way for future reference

once you peel back the felt lining, it should look like this:

after removing the 4 screws lift out the inner plastic. there will be 3 screws holding the lid in place, take them off

next lift the corners of the other felt lining, the one on the lid itself, and remove the 4 screws:

once thats done, remove these screws:

finally remove staples, and reupholster with your choice material.

That looks nice man! Was it hard to get the fabric to lay down right around the corners? And did you just staple it on? I've been thinking about doing mine with tweed

you should make this into a how to and submit it to the how to forum. Im currently working on getting some new howtos up, this seems like a good one.

thanks! and no, its very easy. as long as the fabric isn't to thick, you should be able to stretch it around the corners. the factory fabric was only held on by staples (not your average office staples of course) so thats what i stayed with. i used a staple gun with 6mm staples so i dont puncture the foam. it would suck to put your arm on the armrest and get poked with them lol. i say go for it. i've reupholstered other parts in my Z, and let me tell u, this is a super easy piece to do. :biggthump

That's a good find. Pricey, will have to contemplate before buying. Mine isn't TOO filthy (Gray cloth), but the plastic is broken underneath from leaning on it. Would be nice to have a new, strengthened one.
