Asking for a double-check

Hi all--happy Spring. I've had my 05 Ranger a little over three years now and familiarized myself with it pretty well. I've made some upgrades that of course required learning the specs & systems. But I recently came across something that has me wondering--what the heck am I driving? I googled "2005 ford ranger variants", and got a couple different sites that agree, so I'm asking: Can it be true that Ford did NOT offer a regular cab, short wheelbase, 4x4, 4 liter with an auto tranny in 2005? Reason for asking? That's my truck, and none of the websites I checked show that Ford offered that configuration.

Have you decoded the VIN using tools online? That should tell you much of that I would think.

Go here and get your 2005 Ranger brochure: https://www.therangerstation.com/art...ger-brochures/

You can see what was offered within sub-models

But car makers will build what customer wants, within reason, lol

Regular cab 4.0l 4x4 wouldn't be a standard build
Regular cab 4x4 wasn't that odd, but most only had the 3.0l V6
Automatics were the "standard" transmission starting in 1998 in Rangers

And 2005 also didn't have PATS(passive anti-theft system) Ford skipped that one year, just FYI

In the 2005 brochure it says 4.0l was not available in Regular cab, BUT...............it is shown as an available Option, lol

Eddieq & RonD--thanks for the replies. You both point me to the same conclusion. First, VIN decoders only tell me what I already know: 2005, 4.0L, Auto, 4x4. No determination on whether it's an XL, XLT, STX, nada. Second, the truck isn't marked at all except for "Ranger", "Ford", and "4x4". So yeah, conclusion? The original owner didn't buy this off a lot--he custom ordered it, especially considering it's the 118 inch wheelbase. This is my second Ranger. My mechanic totaled my 2003 while test driving it--no kidding. So I guess this is my reward, and with 77k original miles and a perfect maintenance record, I'll be enjoying it for a long time. Anyone interested in photos just shout out. Thanks guys!

Feel free to post in the pictures thread. We all love to see each other’s trucks.

Would you be able to get a “build sheet” from a Ford dealer?

On Line there are several sites that can take your vin and come up with the original window stickier sheet. Then you pay, I believe it was under 10 bucks, they list it and you can print off as many copies as you want. Did that with my 2009Google up Ford reproduction window stickers.
Just google up Ford reproduction window stickers / sheets....go to Marti Auto Works Reproduction Window Stickers.
