Automatic Transmission Problem
Automatic Transmission Problem
1998 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 automatic transmission. Truck seems to be stuck in high gear. All gears work on colum, 1st, 2nd, drive and reverse. I can select drive and have to let truck get up to speed slowly and once above 15 mph I can drive Truck normally. The Truck will not shift at all. It seems like the truck is stuck in 4th gear. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance,
Jason

You only need to post a question once
1998 Ranger 4.0l will have a 5R55E automatic, same as the 4R55E or 5R44E models
You should have a CEL(check engine light) on full time and so codes to get
CEL should come on with key on, and then go off after engine starts, that tells you the CEL bulb is working<<<<
You can check Fuse 15 in the engine fuse box, that powers the transmission solenoids(and the O2 sensor heaters)
This fuse can blow if an O2 heater fails or wire is melted by exhaust heat and shorts
And there would be codes for that and no voltage at solenoids
And there would be transmission codes, P0700-P0803, in any case, because transmission ratios for the gears are not correct, not changing, i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, ect...
So get the codes and check fuse 15
