Back door won't open

Help ,my father in law just gave us a 2007 Ford Ranger pick up,we got it home 60 miles away and the back door won't open.Is there a button or lever somewhere? It doesn't feel stuck. He hasn't a clue he bought it on impulse as it was so cheap.TIA...

Most likely the latch mechanism is rusted shut at the bottom. Common in Rangers.

Yes, the rear door latches were an issue if they doors were not opened very often, they would rust in place

Good article here on what you can do: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...uck-rear-door/

With pictures, lol

Also Google: 2007 ford ranger rear door latch videos

Pretty much 1998 thru 2011 used the same rear door latching, so all apply

Ford used cables to open doors on many old trucks. The plastic ends on the cables sometimes turned to mush and break and would not open the doors. I had this happen to my rear door on my Ranger. Amazon sells aluminum cable ends that can replace the broken plastic ones. If that is your problem they sell a pack of 4. One will differ slightly as the top latch takes a slightly different attachment.
