Balljoints are dead at 28k miles

This after noon i had an appointment to get an alignment since i installed my new torsion bars last weekend and my steering felt mushy. Well the guy then comes to tell me that my upper balljoints are blow out (he even showed me). Im not really sure what i should do here cuz my trucks still pretty new with only 28k miles. Should i see if i can get them replaced under warranty or go buy the friggin 100something dollar greasable balljoints from napa? My lift spindles should be here with in a few weeks so maybe i could just replace everthing then when i got the entire suspension apart. any feedback would be appreicated

If you're puttin new spindles on in the near future just do it all at once and then get it aligned.

Get the Moogs. Good stuff!

just wait till you do your spindels.. they ball joints on your truck are part of the upper control arm so you gotta replace that too... its really easy though

im hoping my existing balljoints last a few more months cause i cant put the fabtech spindles on my truck safely with stock rims (im saving for rims/tires)

my front end isn't squeeking, but it does feel loose thats why im concerned

Did he take a pry bar and place it between the frame and upper arm. Then appling force to see if the joint moves? the grease boot maybe gone but it doesnt mean the joint is bad right now. If the boot is gone it needs to be replaced but proablly not right now. Wait till it starts making noise. As far as the pushing/pulling the wheel will only tell you if you need new wheel bearings.

How can they say all 4 are bad?
I had one go way bad at 28000, the other 3 are still stock I could probably replace them but they arent totally gone yet. (76000mi)

They might be trying to take advantage of you.

what??? thats gotta be a ford issue. your stock ball joints mustve just been bad.. especially if you hardly ever go wheelin. and i was thinkin just now.. why were you getting an alignment if you were gettin ready to install new spindles???

the situation is highly unlikely.

1 may be bad...or the boots may be torn on some/all of them. That doesn't mean they are "bad"

Do the prybar test.

I wheel mine pretty hard (i've got some air...sadly) and I'm on 33's and spindles with my bars cranked about 1/2 way, actually less. And mine tested perfect. Although I am still going to replace them (b/c I want to upgrade to 37's soon enough) so I'm doing all my upgrading before my tires get too worn so I can sell em for some decent $

IMO, go to another shop and get a 2nd opinion, maybe even a 3rd before you drop 300 on a set of moogs

Well the balljoints are about 30$ for lowers and 110$ for uppers if you get the uppers with arm.

Anyway my advice is to not accept "they all dead" from anyone because its HIGHLY unlikely that all 4 are bad... at 28k unless its a factory defect.. they forgot to grease
or something.

take it to the dealer and tell them it feels mushy and see if they will do it all under warranty. "play dumb"

i agree, not all the joints go bad at the same time.

OH Ive had a ball joint die at 12k

It envolved a rock the size of the tire i slide into.

it started to creak at 10k and the dealer replaced the arm at no charge.
