bought the truck a year and a half ago and looks like original battery. maybe i'm wrong, but that would be pretty impressive to get 102k out of a motorcraft.... anyways the battery is on borrowed time and it's on it's last leg. any suggestions? was thinking about the walmart batteries, they've gotten some good reviews from consumer reports.

 

I have two new cars, well lets say we bought them new 6 years ago and they still have their OEM batteries in them. I know driving habits and where you live are always factors in a batteries overall longevity but they get tested here in Chicago. OEM for me!!!!

 

I've always had good luck with Motorcraft batterys. Mine is an original from 02 with 103k on it. When it dies, it gets a new Motorcraft

 

yeah i was thinking the same but i just read that they aren't the same batteries from then though unfortunately. they have a different manufacturer making them now

 

im gonna be upgrading mine to something with a bit more umph.

i heard mixed things on redtops. new company making them or something??

It used to be that the Sear DieHard was the best dollar value in the battery market but not sure anymore.
I replaced the battery in my Wife’s Ranger with a Red Top Optima almost three years ago and that truck spins so hard when starting.
My 03 Ranger’s battery (original battery) is getting weak, needs replacing too I will go with another Red Top Optima.

I think the new Red Tops are 800 CCA, that’s a lot for a 3.0 or 4.0L.

 

yeah but i read that they aren't made by the same ppl anymore, so supposedly not as good as they once were. the optimas are real expensive to for a car battery

 

what group size did you put in your wifes ranger?

 

I bought a blue top last year. Optimus are good batteries and I paid 150 for mine. Nothing wrong with motorcraft though.

 

like i said w/ the optimas... the motorcraft battery that I have right now from 03 was made by a different company than the ones that they are selling now. Diehard was tops on of the consumer report reviews, but they didn't do they group size 59 for some reason. my friend has a optima for his wrx that he has had since 08 and he says you could leave the lights on for a like a week and the car would still start

Interstate Batteries are supposed to be very good. Right now though my truck has some cheap battery that is over six years old. So it is not always about price and brand.

 

When my original Motocraft battery died, I replaced it with a battery from Bulldog Battery. It's a local company that makes them. They come with a 5 year warranty, cost around $80 bucks. I've been buying from them for years and never had any problems. A similar amp rating Sears Diehard was about $125 bucks.

Look at the Interstate as suggested or even Eastern, depending on what you want to spend.

 

You might be surprised, but most batteries are made by Johnson Controls. By most I mean upwards of 90% of batteries on the market. To me, brand means nothing if they're all made under the same (figurative) roof.

 

when my battery crapped out at about 40 k in my 07, the original battery, i just went to napa and picked up one, ten year warranty i think. i didnt read any good reviews on optimas, because i thought about buying one but i spent 100 bucks and i havent had any issues and this battery has been in for longer. just put 2 motorcraft batteries in the 350 tho

I use Carquest batteries... mainly because I work for CQ but they work great!

 

Me and my family have tried several brands of batteries and have found that the walmart brand works best and lasts the longest. Right now I have the Orig. batt in the truck, but have a wally world batt in my 51, We never have had a problem with them.

Every die hard, optima, etc we have had has died in 2-3 months.

 

California heat is tough on battery mine in my 08 craped out 6 months ago at 37K.I replaced it with a carquest battery i think its got a 84 month warrenty.

 

If you just want a good stock battery to get you by I'd go with a Napa gold or Autocraft gold.

 

After doing some homework lately I am buying a Wal-Mart Marine battery, 625 CCA, excellent warrenty, extra plate strength because of needed durability and $58.95!!

 

I have a duralast gold in my truck as well. 860 some odd CCA's. It didnt fit in the battery tray but that was a minor issue. At 6 degrees, my truck starts like its the middle of summer.
